Hollywood (U.R) There is one fledgling starlet in Holly wood who thinks Oklahoma men have it all over the cinema city variety. She's 10-year-old Gayla Peevey, the featured singer on Hoagy Carmichael's ''Saturday night Revue." Gayla was interviewed at the Hollywood Brown Derby where, in company with her mother, she happily sipped a Shirley Temple cocktail-grenadine and soda wa ter topped with a maraschino cherry. UO Professor's Wife Charges False Arrest San Diego, Calif. (U.R) The city of San Diego today faced a $150,000 claim filed by Mrs. Mary Ellen Allton, wife of a University of Oregon profes sor, charging false arrest. Mrs. Allton had been charged with passing several worthless payroll checks. The case against her was dismissed before going to trial in .Superior court after a handwriting expert said she could not have endorsed the Allton's claim was pre sented to police chief Elmer Jan sen who said he would turn it over to the city attorney's office. If the city attorney turns the claim down, Mrs. Allton may bring suit in court. Coos Boy Lumber Firm Loses to Safecrackers Coos Bay U.R Safecrackers made off with an estimated $1, 000 to $1,200 from the Conrad Lumber Co. here Tuesday night, according to Police Chief Glen Kolkhorst. The burglary was discovered shortly before 8 a.m. yesterday. Kolkhorst said the safe was broken open by use of a hatchet and a heavy hammer which was taken from company stock. Portland U.R) An inter union dispute has idled the American Mail liner Ocean Mall at terminal No. 1 here. "Sure, I like boys," Gayla said, half bashfully. "But my boy friends are all back, in Ok lahoma. My favorite is Jimmy Guthrie and he lives in Ponca City." She explained she hasn't met many Hollywood boys her own age, and the few she did know were trying to become actors. "They aren't as nice," she said seriously. Quick Success As recently as four months ago Gayla had never made a professional appearance. She was a quiet little fifth grade school girl who jumped rope, played jacks and sang for the fun of singing. One day last spring her uncle arranged to have Gayla sing on a radio program just for kicks. Her radio debut was heard by P. A. Sugg, station manager of WKY-TV in Oklahoma City and he invited her to take part in a telethon. A flood of excited phone calls and telegrams poured in, and Gayla was on her way. From May until mid-July, the young blonde songbird was a bonafide Oklahoma TV star. NBC execu tives heard her and subsequently set the wheels in motion for a Hollywood appearance. Just Likes to Sing "I just like to sing," says Gayla, "but, gosh, I never thought all this would happen." Her days are busy rehearsing with movie and television stars she's always dreamed of meet ing Unspoiled, and a little shy, Gayla isn't the least impressed with glamorland. Asked if she planned to stay in Hollywood when the Car michael show goes off the air this fall, Gayla shrugged uncon cernedly.
