Old Timer at Flying Conrad is making the 14,500 mile flight in the 1,000-pound craft in which he twice spanned the Atlantic. He is no newcomer to the clouds. During his long career he has flown more than 28,000 hours and has taught 3, 000 persons how to get up into the blue. These include 44 air line captains and 350 military pilots. Litil Food on Flight Crossing the Atlantic in his tiny Piper Pacer, in which he set several world flight records, posed some problems. It carries only 165 gallons of gas. So, in flight, the flier carried a light load of grub. Mostly graham crackers and milk. On one crossing, he ran into a mtie trouble on a stop at Goose Bay, Labrador. As usual, he was almost without funds. On the overnieht stOD the onlv avail able hotel charged him $16 for a cot. He was weathered out the next day. He was broke. He needed sleep.
