Southern Ore gon college, and Fireside circle, group of young people from the Ashland Methodist church, played host to a group of stu dents from Japan Saturday. The 10 students are all In this country for graduate study in various universities, and are now living in Eugene as guests In various homes as a part of an International relations program. They were accompanied to Ashland for a performance of "The Merchant of Venice" Sat urday by their sponsors and 20 University of Oregon students. They were guests of the festival association for the play, were treated to a picnic in Lithia park by the church group, and stayed overnight at Southern Oregon college. This is the second group of foreign students to come from Eugene as guests of the festival and the college. Last year a group ofc European students saw "Julius Caesar" in Ashland. Lodge Party Degree of Honor lodge will meet for a "hobo" party at Hawthorne park Tuesday, Aug use 18 at 7:30 p.m. Those at tending are to take a sack lunch and are to meet below the Main street bridge. Noted Teacher To .Speak Here Dr. Frank C. Laubacb, who has been called the world's greatest teacher, will be in Med ford October 7 to speak at an open meeting. Dr. Laubach, foreign representative of the Committee on World Literacy of the National Council of Churches, will be brought to the city by Medford Council of Church Women. He will speak at the Medford High school auditorium and an effort is being made by the sponsoring group to have all churches of the area cooperate in bringing together a large audience to hear the speaker. Dr. Laubach is the author of the book "Wake Up or Blow Up" in which he states "The bot tom four-fifths of the world are going Communist because they are hungry, terribly unhappy and grimly determined to rise out of their-destitution. We can stop communism cold by lifting those wretched people above their misery and desperation." . Daughter Here Miss Dorothy Wright arrived Sunday to spend the remainder of the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. A dessert luncheon will be serv ed and all members and friends are invited. - Mrs. Tooze will be a house guest of Mrs. M. Russell during her stay in Medford. Devotionals and music are on the program for the afternoon. Union members heard several reports given by members dur ing a meeting held Thursday at the Elliott ranch. Miss Elizabeth Burr spoke of Dr. Frank C. Lau bach and his work for India and announced that pictures con cerning the work will be shown in September. Dr. Laubach will speak here in October. The def inite date is to be announced. Mrs. Minnie Bryant, bi-county president, gave a brief report of a recent World's WCTU conven tion at Vancouver, B.C., Can ada, and of a national meeting at Seattle, Wash. A report also was given re garding the Children's Farm home at Corvallis and the fund needed to complete a chapel there for dedication about Sep tember 1. Mrs. Eva Low gave devotion als and offered a prayer. Topic for the devotionals was taken from the Union Signal, of ficial publication of the union. Mrs. Guy Cox, president, report ed on national Brethren church meeting held in Colo rado at which many of the speakers talked on topics used by the union. Mrs. Cox also presided for a brief business meeting. Mrs. Ern est Sante had charge of a Bible quiz. Mrs. Mable Houck read an article that was taken from a farm journal in California. Picnic Dinner Held By Jolly Stitchers; Birthdays Observed Jolly Sitchers held a picnic dinner recently at the home of Mrs. H. R. Edwards with 11 members and their husbands present. Dinner was served in the garden. Husbands were hon ored, each receiving a birthday gift from the club. The group was entertained with moving pictures shown by Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Palmateer of Salem. Mr. Palmateer travels for Standard Oil company. The club held a birthday din ner August 7 at the home of Mrs. Don Robins honoring two mem bers, Mrs. Hans Rammin and Mrs. A. O. Floyd. Family Returns Mr. and Mrs. Don Casper and daughters, Jacqueline and Linda, 1102 West McAndrew road, re turned last week from Los Ange les where they were on a bust ncss trip and also visited Mrs. Casper's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. While the visitor was here the group drove to Crater Lake and Diamond lake and also attended the Oregon State Gladiolus festi val at Grants Pass. This was Mrs. Thompson's first visit to Oregon and being from the drouth area of Texas she was particularly impressed by the greenery and flowers here, her tiosts remarked. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Russ Jamison and Mrs. Robert Wilcox. Attending were Mrs. Miles Gammill, Mrs. Lily Gammill, Mrs. R. H. Pax son, Mrs. Ralph Wilcox, Mrs. Ted Littlefield, Mrs. T. C. The bride is the former Jacquoise Kirtley. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Kirtley, formerly of Medford and now of Moses Lake. The newly weds are living at Moses Lake. Chapel Rites Wed Jacquoise Kirtley, Air Force Officer Lt. and Mrs. Edwin Wilkinson are living at Moses Lake, Wash., following their wedding June 20. The bride is the former Miss Jacquoise Kirtley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Kirtley, Moses Lake, former Medford residents. The bridegroom Is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Wilkinson Sr., Akron, O. He is a lieutenant in the Air Force and is stationed at Larson Air Force base. The wedding took place at the base chapel. For her wedding the bride wore a white pique suit. She car ried a white Bible and her bou quet was a white orchid with pink rosebuds. Miss Karen Kinsey was bridesmaid. The young women were sorority sisters. Best man was Lt Thomas Lewis of Spokane. A reception for 75 guests was held at the officers' club after the wedding. Assisting were Mrs. Jacquoise Moore and Miss Josephine Kirtley, both of Med ford and both aunts of the bride. After a brief wedding trip to Coeur d' Alene, Ida., the newly- weds returned to Moses Lake and are living at Mode o' Day apartments.
