Indian Detained On Open Charge As Murder Suspect Madras U.R) A - 24-year-old Warm Springs Indian was held by Jefferson county authorities today on an open charge in con nection with the death of Jeff "Wakey, 52. another Indian, whose semi-nude body was found dumped by a roadside Monday. Arrest Follows Probe Reginald Winishut was arrest ed after a preliminary investiga tion by officers of the Warm Springs agency, Jefferson coun ty sheriff's deputies, the FBI and state police. Walsey's body was found 26 miles northwest of Madras by a highway inspection team that in cluded members of the State Highway Commission. Winishut, a serviceman attach ed to an engineer unit at Ft. Lewis, Wash., led police to a blood-soaked piece of ground on Agency Plains three miles north of here and told them that a struggle had taken place there. He did not give officers further details, saying his memory had blacked out. Blow on Head Wasco county coroner's office reported that Walsey's aeath was caused by a blow on the head. Police learned that Winishut was AWOL from his unit as of Tuesday. They said he had been seen in Prineville with Wakey last Thursday night and Friday morning with two teen-age Indians. Safeway Claims Union Conspiring To Force Food Costs Higher ARGUMENT SETTLED Lawrenceville. 111. (U.R) County Judge Richard Simpson easily settled the argument be tween J. T. Nicholas. 44, Lawr enceville, and Henry Clay Clark, 46, Metropolis, after they were brought before him and accused each other of driving the car whose erratic movement caused police to bring them in. Inc.. charged an AFL Meat Cutters union, five union members and seven market operators in the Seaside Narea with violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act in a suit on file today in Federal District Court here. Named in the suit were the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workers of North America; Union Local No. 143; Amos Buck, Herman F. Fahl busch, Edward Wilson, Tony Wallack and Joseph Y. Hender son, Seaside union officials, and J. A. Weber, Wenzel G. Luthe, Ray D. Cameron, Robert R. Sta ley, Wayne G. Smith, Vernon Vincent and Carl R. Hertig, Sea side market operators. Higher Costs Cited The suit charges the. defend ants seek to force costs on Safe way stores in Seaside higher than those incurred in opera tions of the independent markets ooeratine in competition to Safeway. She frequently visits the local track when the fleet Grey hounds thrill the pari-mutuel bettors on summer nights. The President is no racing fan. however, and prefers to stay at Mrs. Doud's home evenings and chat or play bridge with old friends. Neighbors Alarmed Before Mrs. Doud came West ahead of the President and Mrs. Fisenhower, he neighbors on Lafayette st. were alarmed one night to see flashlights playing ominously around the interior of the unoccupied house. The neighbors spread the alarm, even called the news papers. Breathless reporters and photographers who arrived min utes later discovered that the lights were being employed quite properly by Secret Service agents preparing for the President's visit Neighbors Excited i The neighbors still can't get over seeing strange young men pacing in front of the Doud home as the Secret Service maintains a guard, as discreetly as possible, while the President is in resi dence there. But old hands at this business predict the neighbors will be come accustomed to the security precautions around the President and pay no more attention to it than did the neighbors of former President Truman in Independ ence, Mo. The Secret Service makes a Sincere effort to be as unosten tatious as possible in protecting the President in the quiet resi dential neighborhool in which Mrs. Doud lives, Two days after the President came out here, the rope and wooden barriers erected by Den ver police at either end of Mrs. Doud's block were quietly taken down.
