Medford came back in the sev enth when Mellbye opened with a double but was cut down at third on a fielder's choice which allowed Smith to reach first. James was hit by a pitched ball, sending Smith to second and both runners advanced when Maddox walked. Jim Sinovic's single sent Smith and James home with two Stud runs. Get Winning Run The winning runs came in the eights, as Roelandt doubled, Martin walked and Smith sing led. Smith's drive was flubbed by the Monarch right fielder for a two base error, allowing Roelandt and Martin- to score with the winning run. An in surance counter was added in the same frame when Monarch pitcher Alberto Rico balked with James at bat, allowing Smith to score. Right Fielder Dan Catala was the big gun in the Cuban's at tack, collecting two doubles and a single in four trips to the plate. Smith had two for four ( for Medford. Shrine Circus Set For Performance Here Sep!. 16,17 It soon will be Shrine Circus time in Medford. The event will again feature Polack Bros. Shrine Circus, which played here last year. Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 16 and 17, are the dates. The circus is being presented by Hillah Shrine Temple. Head ing the circus committees as general chairman is Ron Gandee. The circus will offer an all- new international array of top talent together with - special numbers, Gandee said. Open Office A circus office has been open ed at 322 East Main st., where the advance ticket sales cam paign and other preparations are being coordinated. In order that all children may have a chance to see the circus, blocks of tickets are being sold to business and professional men, industrial concerns, frater nal organizations and civic clubs. Distributed without re gard for race, creed or color, these tickets will make possible a visit to the circus for large numbers of youngsters, from a wide area, who otherwise would not be able to attend. Tickets for the public are be ing offered for sale by Shrine members, and reserved seats will go on sale Tuesday, Sept. 8. Salmon fishing generally is improving. Trout fishing has been spotty and generally not good. Trout angling in the south coastal streams is poor. Salmon fishing in the lower Rogue is poor. On the upper Rogue and its tribu taries, trout angling is good on single eggs and on black and grey flies. Most tributaries are still dropping and very clear. Catches are fair to good at the headwaters of the Applegate and Illinois rivers. A few steelhead are being hooked between Dodge bridge and below. Gold Hill. Trout fishing is fair in streams of the upper Umpqua area and the mountain lakes are produc ing fair to good catches. A few sea-run cutthroat are b e i n g caught in the lower north Ump qua and upper main Umpqua but success is usually poor. Sum mer steelhead angling is slow throughout the area. G. Tanselli Leads Salem To 9-1 Win Salem (U.R) Gene Tanselli's big bat knocked in five runs last night to pace the Senators to a 9-1 victory over Yakima. The win broke a four-game losing streak for the Salem club but it wasn't enough to keep Yakima from taking the series here, two games to one. Tanselli knocked out a homer in the second inning with two men on base. He also got three singles. Joe Nicholas, who manned the mound for Salem all the way, was credited with his 18th win against four losses. Nicholas cheated himself of a shutout by missing a throw to second base in the seventh. Herm Lewis, whom Nicholas at tempted to catch off base, ended up in scoring position and across the plate moments later. Salem opens at Wenatchee to night In other WIL games last night, Calgary downed Spokane, 11-4; Lewiston defeated Edmon ton, 4-2: Victoria edged Vancou ver, 4-3, and Tri-City nosed out Wenatche, 7-6. Three Accidents Reported by State Police This Morning Two automobile accidents, and a third accident in which a pedestrian was injured, were re ported by state police this morn ing. H. J. Marsh, 67, of 833 East Jackson st., was taken to Sacred Heart hospital by Perl ambu lance at about 7:30 p.m. Thurs day for treatment of injuries suffered when the car he was drivine struck a Jackson creek bridge on the Jacksonville - Cen tral Point highway, officers said. His son, Larry Marsh, said this morning his father's condition is considered satisfactory, al though he has been semi-conscious since being hospitalized. He was alone in the car at the time of the accident. Pedestrian Hurt William Clinton Anderson, 57, Waener Creed rd.. Talent, suf fered minor cuts and bruises last nieht when he was hit by a car while walking on Highway 99 near the Talent Junction, state police reported. He was taken to Sacred Heart hospital by Perl ambulance, and his condition was said to be good this morning. Lawrence Vernon Gould, 27, Long Beach, Calif., was driver of the southbound car which hit Anderson, and was accompanied by his wife and daughter. He was not cited for any driving violation, officers said. Edward Thurston Lowery, 59, of 3748 Hilsinger rd., Medford, was cited for failure to yield the right of way yesterday after the car he was driving was involved in an accident with one driven by Ray Ellsworth Morris, 54. of 248 South Riverside ave., Med ford, state police reported. The Lowry car made a left turn off Highway 99 at Phoenix, and was struck by the Morris car. SOFTBALL SLATED Portland Hysters, one of the northwest's outstanding softball teams, will meet the Grants Pass Lumberjacks at the Grants Pass high school field Saturday in a double header. First game is slated for 7:30 p.m. cause by driving in two runs in the first, inning and smacking out a double in the sixth. Neil Campbell doubled for Medford in the first frame and Ernie Ty ler connected for a two-bagger in the fourth. Medford led throughout the contest in taking the victory. Ashland's biggest threat came in the fourth when they tallied three times to cut the edge to 5 to 4 for Medford before the home team collected another run in their half of the inning and then went on to score three in the fifth and two more in the! sixth. Ashland miscues set the stage for Medford's three runs in the opening inning. A combination; of two walks, an error and Sides ! double accounted for the three runs in that frame.
