Avgost 7. 1SSS Complete Renovation Of Catholic Church Finished Within Week A complete renovation of Sa cred Heart Catholic church by parishioners was announced to day by the Rev. Vincent Cunniff , assistant pastor. The work was under the direction of the Very Rev. Nicholas Deis, with Mrs. R. A. Micksche as chairman for the parish. The entire project was com pleted in one week, the pews of the church being removed im mediately after the last mass on Sunday, July 23, and the church was returned to order by the fol lowing Saturday, according to Father Cunniff. Parishioners Do Work Women of the church cleaned all the stations of the cross, the windows, and statues, while men of the parish did all the interior work in way of painting and car pnetry after their regular work ing hours, with "the exception of some of the interior done by Western Decorating company on the higher walls and ceiling and some other work done profes sionally, which included clean ing the large sanctuary mural, he said. New aisle carpeting was laid by the members. A rlranerv was added at the back of the sanctuary, and drap eries were placed over cnoir grilling. Pews, while at the St. Mary's school gymnasium where they were stored during the ren ovation, were completely refin lshed and men of the church redrilled floor positions and. re set the pews in the church. Clean Sacristy Prior to the week's work a Group to Travel To Klamath Falls The Senior Westmister group of the First Presbyterian church will travel to Klamath Falls Sun day to meet with members of the Peace Memorial church at an outdoor picnic and worship serv ice. The service Is planned by Don West, Jerry Gatlinj Shirley Lynch and Nancy McKeown. The Junior high group will meet with the theme Etiquette" at 6:30 in the Fireplace room. Carol Dyke, Jonna Lou Henson, and Denise Bruning lead the dis cussion. Fireside hour will be at the Wayne Jamison home, 110 Portland ave. The George Flanagan home will be scene of the College-Age group for a swim and potluck upper. After the evening service the college-age group will go to the Albert James home on Eu clid ave. for fireside hour. Dr. D. K. West will preach the second in a series of sermons on outstanding personalities of the Old Testament on Lot, on the subject "How Would You Have Chosep," and at the evening service he will give a sermon on marriage, "What Does the Bible Say About It?" The public is invited. New Pasior Named At Free Methodist The Rev. Alvin G. Delamarter has assumed the pastorate of the Medford Free Methodist church and, with his wife and sons, David, 12, and Victor, 8, have moved into the church parson age at 304 South HoUy st. The new pastor came here after a six-year pastorate in Spo kane, Wash., and has also served in Hillsboro, Carlton and Port land. He is a graduate of Port lpnd Bible Institute and Cascade college. At the church's annual conference held recently in Port land, he wa elected conference Sunday school secretary and promotor for the Oregon confer ence of the Free Methodist church. few women of the church painted and cleaned the sacristy and rear part of the building interior. The painting of the vestible, wainscoting and main interior was done by the members. The color scheme, which was planned by Mrs. Micksche, is light and brings out the color and designs of the stained glass windows of the main church, Confessionals were enclosed with doors replacing curtains. For professional work, the parishioners used funds which they had raised for the purpose. Episcopal Church Being Constructed By Prospect Folk Prospect The building of a new Episcopal church is under way here. The structure Is to be 16 feet wide at the chancel and 22 feet wide at the west end, ;nd 64 feet long. There will be space at the west end for a small chapel, and on the south side the vicar will have an of fice. Additional space is pro vided for a choir room and a kitchen. In timeta Parish hall is to be built on from the kitchen cn the south side. The new building will seat approximately i25 persons. The design is combined mod ern and gothic. At the west end a large cross will be built into the structure with louvres behind giving it the modern touch. The chancel is to be a little narrower than the nave to give it a Gothic appearance. When finished it will be quite rustic on the outside. A new vicarage is also being built to the south side of the cnurch. Its appearance will coincide with that of the church. Stuart Mockford, A.I.A., Ore gon City, is the architect, and t:e Rev. A. E. Render Is the vicar. The building site is just north of the town limits and opposite the highway department build ings on Highway 62. Enrollment Open For Kindergarten Enrollment for the fall win ter, and spring term of St. Peter's Lutheran kindergarten are now being received, accord ing to the pastor, the Rev. Ken neth F. Korby. The church at 1020 East Main st., is conducting the kinder garten in the church basement. Sessions begin at 9 a.m., and continue through 12 o'clock, five days per week. Tuition cost for the Kinder garten is $10 per pupil per month, the pastor continued. Mr. Korby then described the activities of the school. Children are taught color and form re lationships, reading readiness music and music appreciation, which is coupled with games, and preparation in general for the first grade. The entire school is conducted with Christ as the center and Lord of all. It is open to any children in the com munity, and is not restricted to members of St. Peter's or to Lutheran people. Any one who desires to enroll his child may di so. Those desiring further Infor mation, or desiring to enroll their children, may call 24395. Ross, Methodist minister and lifelong student of the alcohol problem, will deliver a special address at the Church of the Nazarent, Holly at First st., Sunday at 7:30 p.m. He is eppearing under the auspices of "The National Voice." America's eldest temperance weekly now in its 83rd year of continuous publication, published at Los Angeles, Calif. Dr. Ross has served one pul pit for the past 29 years, at San Pedro, Calif. Throughout his ca reer he has been active in ef forts to curb the liquor traffic in the. nation. His is an authoriata five and scientific approach to the problem of making America sober, a church spokesman said. At the morning worship hour at 11 a.m., the pastor, the Rev. Vernon Wilcox, will speak on the subject: "The Cornerstone of Discipleship." The public is in vited. Smaller Aliendance Subject oi Discussion Phoenix Members of the Sunday school cabinet of Phoe nix Presbyterian church and others interested in the welfare of the school met recently to discuss the problem of decreas ing attendance. It was said that attendance has been decreasing rapidly since the retirement of the Rev. E. J. Clark. Residents of the area are asked to note that services at 10 and 11 a.m. are being held each Sunday at the church. Mrs. Lloyd Schmelder, who represented the church at a leaders' conference held recently in Portland, reported briefly during the meeting. Kipling's T' Basis of Sermons For Methodists Beginning Sunday morning, the Rev. Hardwick W. Harsh man, minister of the First Meth odist church, will begin a series of sermons on Kipling's poem nr for the 9:30 and It o'clock preaching services, it was an nounced today. The first sermon will be on the theme: ''If You Can Keep Your Hsad.", Special music for the identical services will be provided by the S3nctuary. Singers who will smg the anthem: "Lord, For To morrow and Its Needs." Miss Sonja Peterson, young violinist, will play for the offertory "Can to Amoroso." Soloist will be William W. Wilson, bass, who will sing "How Lovely Are Thy Dwellings." New Members At the 11 o'clock service new members will be received into the fellowship of the church and a cool drink will be served to all in the social rooms following the service. Youth groups will meet in the evening at 7 o'clock with the Junior High MYF meeting in their chapel. The Senior High group will meet in the new so cial rooms at the same time.
