Coming in on the play is halfback Sam Venuto (49) of the Redskins. The 49ers won, 35-0. Mrs. Davies Batters Par In Links Exhibition Here Playing before a gallery of approximately 150 persons, Mrs. W. W. Davies and Mrs. Maxine Hammond defeated Teaching Pro Helen Dettweiler and Mrs. Mahr Reymers 3-up Tuesday morning in a nine-hole exhibi tion at Rogue Valley Country club. The match saw Mrs. Davies, course veteran and leading lady golfer at Rogue Valley, stroke five under women's par and two under men's par. She had a 34 for the nine greens. Miss Dettweiler, touring mem Junior Golf Meet Friday A match-play caddy tourna ment opened today at Rogue Valley Country club and a medal-play junior tourney for both boys and girls will be held Friday. : Eighteen boys, qualifying for the caddy meet, were paced by Larry Busey who carded an 84. In the first round of the cham pionship flight today pairings were Bucey Versus Mike Phair, Don Robinson versus Ralph Gil lespey, Larry Copple versus Dick Copple and Mark Emmer son versus David Gault. Division Told In the boys' tournament divi sions are ages seven through nine, ages 10 and 11, ages 12 and 13 and ages 14 and 15. Girls' rivalry will be for those under junior high age, junior high age and senior high age. There will be trophies for winners and runners up in each division. Driving contests are slated. Entries are asked to sign up by Thursday evening. The tour ney is open to Rogue Valley jun ior members. Club Pro Al Williams has ask ed for adult members to volun teer to play along with the jun ior participants or to keep score for them. Miss Dettweiler told club officials she liked the course and hoped to return to play the full 18 holes. The big trouble she en countered here was. with . the tricky greens, bugaboo to many first-timers on the course. (International) Phoenix Gridders Asked To Report Phoenix Coach Jack Wood ward said today that Phoenix high will open football practice on Monday, August 25. Equipment will be issued to grid aspirants on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the school and phys ical examinations will be given at Dr. Charles Hoey's office at 7 p.m. on Friday. Phoenix, Class A-2 in football this year will nlav a nine eame schedule with A and B schools. Shelter Signs Show Congressmen the Way Washington (U.R) Should an A-bomb fall on the next Con gress, members will at least know which way to run. Shelter signs are going up around the Capitol and architect David Lynn said Wednesday they all should be done by January. The first of the red-lettered "shelter area" signs have been stenciled on the walls of the sub way corridor in the new House office building. Others will go in as fast as workmen can get to them. Among those who will compete Monday are Miss Gracie DeMoss of Corvallis and Miss Pat Lesser of Seattle. Gill To Conduct Army Hoop Clinic Corvallis (U.R) Slats Gill, Oregon State college basketball coach, said Tuesday he would participate this fall in a series of basketball clinics under Army auspices in the Far East command. Gill said he would leave Sep tember 25 and return about Oct ober 25. The veteran OSC mentor said at least one other college coach, Jack Gardner of Kansas State, would make the trip." Gill said the coaches would conduct a series of clinics for service teams under a plan sim ilar to one used during World War II. , . He said the trip would prob ably cause him to miss the first week of practice, scheduled to get underway at OSC October 20. Assistant Coach Paul Val enti will handle the team until he returns. Layne, Charles Bout- in October Detroit (U.R) Ex-heavyweight champion Ezzard Charles and Rex Layne will be rematch ed in Cincinnati in October, pro moter John Nolan announced Tuesday. Layne won a disputed decis ion over Charles in Ogden, Utah, August 8, in a bout judged sole ly by Jack Dempsey. Nolan said he had arranged the match through Jim Norris of the International Boxing club and announced hereafter he would be the IBC representa tive in Cincinnati. Second Order Issued Against Picketing Astoria (U.R) Circuit Judge Howard Zimmerman Tuesday issued a second temporary re straining order against picket-1 ing by members of the staking Columbia River Fishermen's i Protective union. Judge Zimmerman's order re moved pickets from the New England Fish Company plant here. On Monday he issued a temporary restraining order against picketing of the Colum bia River Packers association.
