Softened Textures Create
Fashion News for Fabrics
Featured for New Season
Young fashions, featured for
Fall, are designed to make the
most of a "Teen's femininity. For
they have a soft, natural look.
Exciting, textured fabrics
have a downy feeling. Skirts are
neither ultra full nor pencil
straight, but a flattering and ex
tremely wearable midway point
between the two. Lower waist
lines and the midriff molding
Empire influence are both im
portant, and can be seen in teen
suits, dresses and separates.
The dress, with the wander
ing waistline, the "middy
dress," is forward in the teen
Fall fashion scene. There are
one and two-piece versions, all
with gently eased skirts, that
may be pleated all around or
gored to achieve the proper
feminine effect. And most are
dressed up with big bows and
collars without which no true
middy dress is complete.
There are costume dresses, ev
ery one with decidedly feminine
details. These might include
skirt and blouse ensembles top
ped by little close fitting Spenc
er jackets with a gay toreador
air, or extravagant decollete
dresses complemented by figure
molding jackets in a casual
woolen making the costume ap
propriate ' for daytime or eve
ning. New Jumpers
Other costume dresses look
like Tyrolean jumpers complete
with laced corselets, and still
others are milkmaid style, pret
ty as can be with many ruffles
and petticoats.
The slim fitting princess sil
houette, ever a youthful favor
ite, is making its appearance
once more for Fall '52. This
time; it has a definite suggestion
of the Empire look's molded
midriff. This might be simulated
rather than actual with a little
separate jacket, an outline of
cording or the use of contrast
ing fabrics to achieve the de
sired effect.
Fabrics and colors, featured
for teens' Fall separates, have
all been designed to make mix
ing and matching simpler than
ever. Any number of wardrobe
effects, for example, can be
had from a jacket and weskit.
For, this season, they can be had
in both a patterned and plain
fabric or even reversible to a
completely different color, pat
tern and fabric.
Little Spencers
Newest, are the jackets with
the look of a pullover shirt. Lit
tle Spencer jackets, favored by
shorter teen-agers, come in
glamorous nubby fabrics. And
ever-all, belts and pocket treat
ments, like the Martingale belt
which is placed high in back
and patch pockets set at hem
lines, give the classic jacket a
new appearance.
Baby turtlenecks, button
down boy-collars and side slash
es are all popular for teen shirts,
while feminine tucking and
stitching lend a dressmaker
touch to new blouses.
Predicted for great popularity
with the teen set, this Fall, are
the jumpers that look just like
sleeveless dresses. These are de
signed with sweater tops, stitch
ing effects, novel pockets and
baby turtlenecks.
A completely new and femin
ine look has also been given to
coats, featured for teens, this
Fall. Take the fitted coat, for ex
ample. It is available in every
thing from furry fleeces to gen
tle, curly poodle cloths and is
designed to place pretty accent
on a young figure, with a nip-ped-in
waist, big face-framing
collar and whirling wide skirt;
In some instances, buttons
curve around to outline the sil
houette of the princess coat. And
sleeves are slightly rounded
with cuffs that turn.back to re
veal a contrast irr fabric and
color to the coat itself.
The straighter coat, with a
modified . flare, that looks like
the box and flare coat all in one.
promises to make news in the
more casual teen coat styles.
Some versions of this coat have
fullness concentrated at the
sides only. Collars may be versa
tile button-back tabs, scarf ties
or elegant cord outlines. And
linings, too, are bright and new
and may be seen in vividly hued
textured fabrics or gaily pat
terned smooth fabrics.
Lavish Trims Spark
Newest Collections
Of Fall Fashions
Very much the high style point
of the current Fall collections
are the lavish trims that spark
and dramatize the newest fash
ions. Accents of braid and velvet,
lavish embroidery of beads and
sequins, and other distinctive
decorative touches are noted
throughout the fashion scene.
In some cases, trimmings are
used to delineate a silhouette,
particularly when the waistline
or bodice is important.
Beaded sheaths, an imported
decorative note from Paris, is a
bright example of the current
trend.
Braids, fringes and jets are
used extensively in the day-time
collections, while irridescent
beads, sequins, metallic embroid
eries, glitter and jet, too, ani
mate and sparkle the after-five
scene.
Intricate beading and beaded
effects enhance such fabrics as
wool: on jerseys and crepes
knits and pile fabrics.
Jet accents all types of wear
ables, from daytime sweaters to
evening clothes. Either used as
embroidery or fringe trims, it is
a lavish touch reminiscent of
earlier, more opulent days.
More sparkle is achieved by
the use of jeweled embroidery:
rhinestane and pearls aTe used
quite extensively on dress-up
frocks.
Braids and fringes come into
importance on the day time dress
and suit scene and are seen oc
casionally on dressy coats.
Velvet and lace continue to be
the favorite choices for deco
rative effects, and velvet is used
to enhance everything from
tweeds to taffeta.

Bold and Subdued
A larger variety of glove
styles, in both classic and novel
ty designs for dress and business

on hand for men, this Fall.
Leather gloves, like capeskin,
goatskin and pigskin will all be
available, as well as colorful wo
ven gloves and new nylon styles.
New in gloves is a nylon model
that comes with an inner glove
of wool. This can be worn all-in-one
for extra warmth or used as
two individual pairs of gloves.
Interesting, too, are heavy leath
er gloves with colorful wool
cuffs and other leather styles
that have crocheted inserts be
tween the fingers.
NEW IDEA
Excitingly new are stoles cre
ated to be worn as originally in
tended or wrapped around the
waist, cummerbund fashion.
New Cosmetics See
For New Fall Modes
New fashions for fall can pre
sent an incomplete, even a jar
ringnnharmonious picture, if the
cosmetics worn with them have
not been selected as carefully
as the clothes themselves. This
means that make-up shades
should be those originated espec
ially to blend with the new sea
son's colors.
Since foundations, to be most
effective, should be selected to
enhance only natural complexion
coloring, it is the lipstick that
will do the biggest job of offer
ing a good fashion, as well as a
self-flattering contrast to the cos
tume. Here are a few suggestions of
lipstick shades to choose for con
trasting, or blending with new
fall fashion colors.
Fashion's new deep shades in
the blue, green, or grey family
all call for a clear blue-red lip
stick color. Dark reds, medium
blues, blue green and the many
golden browns, on hand this sea
son will be effective with a dark
red lipstick.
Yellows, orange-reds and
browns in costume colors usually
call for a coral lipstick shade
with the bright reds, mustard
tones, greens and russet shades
might be contrasted with a clear
orange-red lipstick.-
A true red lipstick could be se
lected for teaming with dark
reds, blue, dark greys, beige and
brown costumes. And a rosy blue
red lipstick could be used with
costumes ' featuring electric
shades of blue.

Coat Dress Styled
To Go Everywhere
The coat style takes over, this
fall, as the important wardrobe
basic.
For whether this dress is se
lected in a dressy faille fabric or
in a more casual tweed, whether
it's selected with a full or slim
skirt, short or long sleeves, it can
be accessorized to meet any oc
cation with smart good looks.
A jaunty, colorful kerchief at
the neckline or a glittering rhine
stone pin at the belt will dress
the coat frock up or down as the
occasion requires.
Casual or Gay
Knits at Hand
Knitted gloves and mitts, pre
sented for Fall and Winter '52,
are no longer relegated to sports
occasions, but are now styled for
both casual and dress-up wear.
New fashion textures are fea
tured on many new knitted
styles. And there are colorful
details galore that include every
thing from cute sayings woven
right into the mitts to decorative
motifs of rhinestones and pearls
on gloves.
One knitted pair of mitts, for
example, has "Warm Heart" and
"Cold Hands" woven into the
back of each mitt with bright
red hearts around the wrist. A
pair of knitted gloves is ultra
glamorous with metallic gold
cuffs and glittering rows of
rhinestones on the black back of
each glove.
SOFT AND LONG
Hair styles for Fall are longer
and more softly fashioned with
emphasis on gentle waves.
The textured look of Fall 52's
fashion fabrics, almost a "natu
ral" for knitted designs, is a fea
ture news point for the new sea
son's creations along with newly
popular middy lines and knitted
ensembles that come in two ver
satile parts.
Feather-light, lacy textures,
ribs that widen gradually, tight
ly woven surface stitching and
nubby chenilles are all used to
achieve the softened textures of
the season.
Middy lines, in new knit fash
ions, are reflected in overblouse
styles, that often are belted, as
well as classic middy-top pat
terns. One style, for example,
has a torso middy top with a
small turtle neck and an easy
going four-gore skirt.
Newest ensembles mean added
versatility for fall wardrobes, for
tops and jackets of these knitted
styles can often be teamed with
other skirts or worn over con
trasting tops. Typical instances
are middy tops, cardigan jackets,
overblouses and slim fitting
tuck-in tops.

Fashions Show Versatility
Miss Sub-Teen is adop'ting the
Middy Silhouette for her very
own, this Fall. For dresses, suits
and coats, created for this young
lady, all reflect this excitingly
new fashion feature, with many
designs also offering her a
wealth of versatility.
Take middy dresses, for ex
ample. They are designed in
styles for party going or going
back to school. One party dress
emphasizes the middy line with
a long, slim torso that ends in a
self-fabric band around the hips.
Typical of the school day mid
dy dresses is the one with a two
piece outlook. It has a big bow
and collared blouse-like top and
a trimly pleated skirt. Still an
other middy dress type comes
with an extra overblouse, that
has the exact appearance of a
middy.
The Sub-Teen's suits often
achieve a middy silhouette with
a tiny Spencer jacket topping a
skirt that's smooth to the hips
before it flares out. In other in
stances, suits have long boxy
jackets, styled with a minimum
of details, that team with tap
ered skirts to provide a middy
silhouette.
Although the Sub-Teen's coats
also take on middy lines, they
are offered as well in a number
of other pretty designs.
One example of the middy
eoat, created for younger girls,
is molded from the shoulders to
well below the waist where the
middy silhouette is accented by
an all-around band. The skirt of
the coat is youthfully flared.
Other coats, in newly popular
fitted styles, might have two
belts, one for nipping-in each
side of the waist. They might
have buttons that curve with a
grown-up air, and in any of
these instances, the lining might
be a brightly colored contrast to
the outside of the coat.
