TV JlXTEEM MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Wednesday, August 20, 1932 Council Rejects Tent Application For Revival Meet A request that the Rogue Val ley Crusade for Christ be allow ed to erect a large tent for re vival meetings at East Jackson street and Biddle lane was re jected by the city council last night at city hall. The request was riot granted because the lot where they want to put up the tent is in a residential zone. City Attorney Frank Farrell commented that the council cannot very well ignore its own ordinances, so the request was refused. The council and city recorder offered to help the group find another place where their tent would be acceptable. Authorize Election The formality of authorizing a municipal election in conjunc tion with the November 4 gen eral election was made. The of fices of mayor, recorder . and treasurer and four council posts will be up for election. A petition to prevent heavy trucking on Eighth street near Almond street was referred to the city superintendent's office. Three citizens appeared to com plain that the street is too nar row to handle the large gaso line and log trucks that use it. It was announced an alter nate proposal to the widening of tne post office driveways open ing on Sixth and Holly streets ivill be submitted. Three of the five councilmen there comment ed unfavorably on the proposed widening of either driveway. Meeting Called Recorder Ralph Woodford was asked to call a special meeting of the planning com mission to consider changing the setback line on Canon street from 20 to 18 feet. The change was requested to enable con struction of a specially-built res idence at Ninth and Canon streets for a paralyzed man. About $150 was taken from the city emergency fund for the salary of 10 special work men who were hired for flood control services during the Aug ust 3 hail and rain storm. An ordinance calling for es- sessments for a paving project on Winchester street between Plum and Hamilton streets was accepted. Reports on progress of pav ing projects and the construc tion at the municipal airport were made by Vernon Thorpe and Robert A. Duff. Both pro jects were said to be proceed ing satisfactorily. She was bitten on the thigh by one. The 22-year-old Genevieve has been earning 1,000 francs (S2.85) a night for the past six weeks in a cellar night spot where she doffs a piece of cloth ing every time a "student" in the audience answers correctly a question about history or geo graphy. Sometimes, she said, the students are very gal lant and kiss her hand romantic ally. An occasional pinch she writes off as in the line of business. "Men are just naturally friendly," she observed.
