Retriever Trials Sunday; Clubs Slate Competition The annual trials between Rogue Valley Retriever club of Medford and the Shasta Cascade club of Klamath Falls will be held Sunday, August 17, at Hoov er lakes, northeast of Medford. Competition will commence at 8 a.m. and will continue through out the day. Prizes for this rivalry are ro tating and have to be won con secutively for two or three years for permanent possession. Keen competition for the awards is Poison Oak Imm'ediate Relief y' Definite Prevention y'PosHive Treatment B.Y.'s MEDICATED OINTMENT $1.00 at any drug store foreseen since the Shasta Cas cade group is bringing over a large number of fine dogs. Ken Denman of the Medford club is field trial chairman. One judge will be Gene Spencer, past Shasta Cascade president.. Events Told Dogs will be worked on ducks and pigeons. Events will be a derby stake for dogs under two years of age; a qualifying stake for dogs of all ages which have never been placed in an open all-age stake; a puppy stake for dogs under one year and an open 'all - age stake. Ladies of the Moose will serve lunch and sandwiches and cold drinks will be available at the grounds all day. The public is invited. Tragedy Strikes Minor tragedy struck the State team when Cliff Rosen baum, 202-pound fullback from Prineville dropped from the team and left for home.. He re cently had an operation to re move cartilage from both sides of one knee and has been unable to participate in scrimmages. Another Stater, John Harbour,-Grants-Pass tackle, is on the sidelines with a knee injury. Plenty of entertainment is on schedule for the players on both teams this week end. They will be honored guests at a softball game Friday night and will at tend the auto races Sunday afternoon. Hardtop Cars Race Tonight At Sheriff's Posse Track A hardtop auto racing pro gram of a contemplated 60 laps and with some 30. drivers is slat ed tonight at the Jackson County speedway at the sheriff's posse grounds on Sage road west of Medford. The events planned are four heat races of six laps each, a tro phy dash of three laps, a final heat of eight laps, a special event, a semi-main of 12 laps and a main event of 20 laps. "Winners of the four heats will vie in the trophy dash and those who place first,, second and third in the heat races will vie in the final heat. Trophy dash winners will start in 4he rear in this eight lap race. 20 Local Drivers About 20 drivers of the local Southern Oregon Stock Car Rac ing club are expected to be en tered. These drivers have been racing Sundays at the airport. The races tonight at the posse oval will be promoted by the' men who have been conducting races at the airport. A good rep resentation of men who have been racing in past weeks at the, posse grounds is anticipated this evening, also. Among drivers of this area south wind that experts said added "at least four strokes" to the Milburn Country club lay out, Middlecoff slashed a bril liant 32-35 67, five under par to assume the lead Thursday. The slender Memphis shot maker lost to U.S. open cham pion Julius Boros of Mid Pines, N.C., in a playoff at Tarn O'Shan ter last week. Boros was in the field here, but he virtually shot himself out of the tournament on the opening day, posting a 36-40 76, nine strokes off the pace. Games Scheduled In ABC Ruckus Portland U.R) Tongue Point meets Warrenton and Norgan's Beavers of Portland' clash with Steinfelds of Portland Friday night in a second-round double header of the state American Baseball Congress tournament here. Tongue Point and Warrenton, each with one loss and no wins in the tourney, will be fighting against .elimination. The two Portland teams have one victory each and will be battling to see which takes the favored position in the tournament. In Thursday night contests Cascade Locks defeated Willam ette 2-1 and Forest Grove stopped Mecca Luncho of Port land 3-0. slated to contend are Dick Mills, Eldon Nelson, Bud Kennedy, Fred Whaley, Dave Hines, Bill Rosenbalm, Lou Kurz, Bob Wil liams, Ernie Groth, Bob Jenkins and Dick Malcomes. Time trials are set for 8 p.m. and the first race for 8:45 p.m. No Sunday afternoon races at the airport are planned. Smith Has 165 Card in Jaycee Golf Eugene (U.R) Southern golfers were in the spotlight Fri day in the national Junior Chamber of Commerce golf tournament here as 16-year-old Scotty Fraser of Panama City, Fla., led the field at the 36-hole mark with a one-over par 145. Fraser was one of only "three golfers to equal par 72 on the course Thursday. The others were Medalist Tommy Jacobs, Montebello, Calif., and Joe Cor rell, Winston Salem, N.C. In second place was Buddy Manderson of Tuscaloosa, Ala., who equaled his 73 of Wednes day for a two-day total of 146. Jacob's two-day mark of 147 put him in Ihird place. " 4th Place Tie Tied for fourth place at 148 were Larry Moore, Moultrie, Ga.; Don Bisplinghoff, Orlando, Fla.; and Jim Lucius, Northfield, Minn. The opening day leader, Rog er Boyd of Tacoma, Wash., slip ped to a five-over par 77 Thurs day for a score of 149. Among the Oregon competi tors, Dick Twiss of The Dalles had a two-day total of 161. Mike Starling of Eugene had a total of 163; Justin Smith of Medford, 165, and Bob Prall of Salem, 175. Kevin Riley of Vancouver, B.C., had a 158 and Dick Mad sack of Olympia, Wash., had 165. Races Saturday On Ashland Oval Ashland Hardtop races again will be held at the Ashland Ro deo grounds on Saturday. The evening program will commence at 7 o'clock. Last week 48 cars were en tered in the races. Of these 23 were in the main event. Only eight cars finished the main race, an indication of the slam bang type of entertainment fans may expect. urn 7.
