There was no Intermission the acting going forward without interrup tion a smart touch. It was easy to get the real idea of the Elizabethan artists who made the "king's English" rise above other theatrical effects. In fact, the acting, slightly subdued in histrionic power, seemed to enhance the glory and" effect of Shakespearer's poetic diction. The lines were carefully spok en and the true plot as conceiv ed by the master was apparent without the effect, of modern microphone attachments. Stage effects such as lighting and thun der were used artfully, and na ture added a few touches, espe cially as Cassius, pointing up ward, declaimed "the fault, dear Brutus, is not with our stars but with ourselves that we are un derlings." . And there above was a full canopy of stars, bright in the heavens, with the North Star and the big dipper marking the time, as Caesar compared him self to the greatTole star, fixed and steady with the others mov ing about in their courses. The entire cast performed as a unit, no part being played to transcend the others, except as intended by the part itself, an unusual treatment in Shake spearean acting. Credit then goes to the entire company for a well coordinated presentation. Ah incident occurred on the way to Ashland, while driving into Medford from the domicil iary, showing a sense of alert ness along the highway to the fire danger. Someone in a jeep drove around the Red Cross driver and motioned to pull over to the side. At first she thought it was a flat tire. Apparently the official personage was a fire warden. One of the men had tossed a cigarette out into the highway. He called this to our attention. "While we are not in a forest area, the sparks from a lighted cigarette may start fire," he warned. It was agreed that such a procedure along the highway at this time is one way of be coming more fire conscious. Angry Man Tosses Bottles Through Window at Wife Bay City, Mich. (U.R) Jo seph McPeak has a hot temper. When he became angry with his estranged wife, he threw beer bottles at her. She was standing on the other side of a plate glass window in the downtown shop where she works. Judge Karl K. Leibrand decided McPeak should have 90 days in jail to cool off. Religious Feeling London (U.R) The pre-war days of militant atheism are back again in Russia and young Com munists are expected tb combat "religious prejudices" in their own homes, the Soviet press has revealed. ' Komsomolskaya Pravda, offi cial newspaper of the Komsomol, Soviet Communist youth league, which trains young people for admittance to the Communist party, stated at length Soviet Russia's case against religion. The newspaper published a two-column reply to a Komsomol member, V. Gnilomedov, who had written asking if he bad done well to , remove an ikon (religious painting) irom his mother's room although his moth er believes in God and often prays. "The statute of the Koms6mol demands that every member of the organization take active, part in the struggle against religious prejudices," Komsomolskaya Pravda declared. "A member of the Komsomol is, therefore, an active fighter against religion." Call for Struggle The newspaper reminded Gnilomedov that the eleventh congress of the Komsomol recent ly "pointed to the necessity of strengthening the propaganda of scientific knowledge among the young and the organization of a stubborn every day struggle against religious prejudices." KOmsomol members are not only forbidden to practice re ligion and attend religious cere monies, but even to manifest a passive tolerance of such prac tices in others, the newspaper explained. It added: "Stalin's constitution gives to every Soviet citizen the right to make anti-religious propaganda and, at the same time, the right to practice religion. But the Com munist party and the Soviet state do not consider that religious prejudices are harmless and do not treat them with indifference. The party has never reconciled itself to the existence of religious prejudices," the newspaper de clared, i Not Needed by Socialists According to the newspaper, religion first appeared "as a re-1 suit of man's helplessness against the "forces of nature" and there is no place for it in a socialist state where people have learned to dominate nature.
