Arms Burned Robert Reicks, Elgin, Neb., suffered second and third degree burns on his arms when hot tar accidentally spilled on him while he was working for the J. G. Watson Construction company of Portland between Trail and Tiller. Reicks was tak en to Sacred Heart hospital for treatment, attendants reported. To San Francisco Mrs. George Distell, 2255 Spring brook road, and son, Bill, ac companied by Mrs. Ethel Beams, 412 N. Oakdale street, and fam ily, left Friday morning for a trip to San Francisco. While there they will visit friends and relatives, returning home on Monday. New York Visitor Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bradfish, 220 Brad ford way, have as a guest in their home Miss Joanne Sedg wick, Syracuse, N.Y. Miss Sedg wick, a niece of Mr.' and Mrs. Bradfish, arrived here Tuesday and will spend two weeks in Medford before . returning to Syracuse, where she' is a student at Syracuse university. Wilson, 2Z09 East Main street, was recently promoted from a major, to a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps. Lt. Col. Wilson is sta tioned at the U.S. Naval Receiv ing station, Seattle, Wash., and during World War II participat ed in action against enemy forces on Okinawa. His wife, Mrs. Wilson, and son, Arthur A. Wilson live in Medford. Swimming Accident Ten-year-old Lowell Halverson, Ta coma, Wash., suffered head cuts Thursday when he dove into the Hawthorne park swimming pool and hit his head against the edge of the pool. He was treated and released from Sacred Heart hos pital, attendants reported. Low ell and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney;. Halverson, are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Novasad, Central Point. . , Receives Bronze Star Major Joseph E. Hillis,- son of Mrs. Eunice Hillis, 532 Plum street, was recently awarded the Bronze Star medal while serving with the U.S. Air Force in the Far East. Gen. Jacob E. Smart, depCty for operations for FEAF, made the presentation and cited Major Hillis for meritorious ser vice as chief of the administra tive branch, office of the deputy for operations at FEAF, from Dec. 3, 1951 to July 20, 1952. Conger-Morris funeral home is in charge of funeral arrangements. MILDRED TAYLOR Services for Mildred Kather ine Taylor, 8, of Jamestown, Calif., who died Tuesday, will be held in Conger-Morris chapel Saturday at. 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. C. Henry Lacy officiating. Committal will be at Siskiyou Memorial park. Miss Taylor was born April 24, 1944, in Medford, and left here in 1949 with her parents to live' in California.- Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John M. Taylor; two brothers, Ray and Jerry; her paternal grandmother, Mrs.-Julia Taylor, Plainview, Tex.; her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Richey, Medford, and several uncles," aunts and cou sins. ' " J - JOHN O'BRIEN Services for John Edward O'Brien, 82, who died Wednes day in Vallejo, Calif., will be held in Conger-Morris chapel Saturday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. W. Lee Gray officiating, and Jacksonville IOOF lodge parti cipating in the services. Commit tal will be in Jacksonville cemetery. Mr. O'Brien was born March 18, 1870 in the Applegate valley and lived there for many years before going to California. He is survived by a son, Ver non E., Vallejo, Calif.; a brother, James, Jacksonville, Ore.; three sisters, Mrs. Rose Baldwin, Ash land; and Maude M. and Anna D. O'Brien, Seattle, Wash., and two grandchildren. Abandoned Auto A car was abandoned Thursday at 344 Mary street, according to the city po lice. Adrian E. Niehaus, who lives at that address, told police the car was left there without the registration card and with expired vehicle licenses. - Take Permits Asa Arnsburg Thursday took a building permit for the remodeling of. the Med ford hotel. The permit is for a $16,800 project. M. N. Hogan ac quired a .$1,100 building permit from the city building inspector's office to remodel a corner of his offices at 28 South Central ave nue. New Home Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brennan moved recently to the former home of Mr. and Mrs. Reese Alexander, 1933 -Wester-lund drive. Brennan is a partner of Les Taylor of the Medford In vestment company, and he and his wife moved to Medford about two months ago from Lake Grove, Ore. The Alexanders are building A new home on East Main and are temporarily resid ing at the Crater Inn. He had been brought in at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday and re leased on bond at 4:35 p.m., ac cording to sheriff's deputies, and was not lodged in the jail over night as previously reported. The car involved had former ly belonged to McCoy until it was repossessed by the bank a few days ago, according to Deputy District Attorney Bob ! Dickey. It was then stored at the used caf"lot of Medford Mo Murphy Man Receives Four-Year Sentence Elwyn Sherwood Willson, 34, Murphy, Ore., was sentenced to four years in the state peniten tiary yesterday for forgery by Circuit Judge H. K. Hanna, ac cording to Deputy District At torney Bob Dickey, Willson pieaded guilty to the district'' attorney's information and waived indictment. He was charged with passing a $40 coun terfeit check made out to him self and signed for W. E. Willson on the Medford branch of the U. S. National bank.
