TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MEI0ftU3TRIB Grants Pass Elks Nip Central Pointers 1-0 In Diamond Play-off Play-off for the District No.' 8 softball mantle extended to a third scramble Friday night when the Grants Pass Elks nicked' Central Point 1 to 0 in a tight pitcher's duel at the Medford high stadium. The Elks' triumph evened the clubs In: the two-out-of -three series. Central Point was victor Thursday, at Grant Pass ; 7 to 0. Decider in the series was slated last night on the Medford turf. Vern Collins, tossing his fourth game in five nights for the Pointers, permitted only one Miller Wins Main Race Bernie Miller, Grants Pass, one- of the top contenders for point honors in California -Stock Car association track contention, copped the main event and the final; heat Friday in hardtop races at the posse grounds and speedway here.' ' Miller was also second in the second heat and third in the fourth. There were only nine cars an hand for the evening scampers but , a near capacity crowd was in the stands. Rusty Phillips, Yreka, Calif., trailed Miller in the main run and the final heat and Woody Thomason, Yreka, was third in both. The three men have been battling for the point laurels. Phillips : won the fourth heat, was'second in the first and was second in the trophy dash. Thom ason was second in the; third heat race. . Lou Smith, Medford, nabbed the trophy dash and the second heat. Other placings were Don Mnore. Yreka. first and Herb James, Yreka, third in the first heat; Charlie Steel, Grants Pass, third in the second heat and second in the fourth, and James first and Archie Green, Medford, third in the third heat. .
