So if I have any literature that would help her to convince her customers that the split nails are not her fault she'll be grateful. Recently a reader complained that her reaction to nail polish is red, swollen, itchy eyelids. For this reason she has not worn nail polish for three years. It is getting her down, gives her an inferiority feeling when she has to show her hands in -the com pany of women who are all painted up. Isn't there some kind of non-allergic nail polish? My unsympathetic answer to that brought an indignant re joinder from another reader who says it is evident that I do not come in contact much with women in these parlous times, and she presumes I do not allow my wife and daughters if I am so fortunate Lto use cosmetics and nail polish, but I probably take a second look at the woman who does, and admire her. She asks whether I go out in public without shaving or grooming my nails. Finally she offers to tell my reader who is allergic to ordinary nail polish the name of the much-coveted nail polish she uses, as she had to give up ordi nary, nail polish for the same reason. In rebuttal I never use the stuff. I hate the sight of it. Nail polish, hair frizz or any other artifice that screams to high heaven that it is fake. I admire the woman who uses cosmetics in an attractive, feminine way and that means that you have to take at least a second look to discover that she uses any arti fice at all.
