This and That
W. NICHOLS
Feature Writer .
est placed men in the govern
mertt came dashing into his stu
dio and wanted a record made of
a speech he had prepared.
"Let's rush through this thing,
please," he said. "I have a date
with President Truman in half
an hour."
The recording was rushed,
and then the politician settled
back to hear himself make a
speech. He liked it so much he
heard the record three times,
while the President waited. The
man was half an hour late for
his date with the chief.
Caters to Capitol Hill
Loeb caters mostly to Capitol
Hill. Senators and representa
tives hire him to make record
ings of speeches. Some of them
are for network shows, ' others
are mailed to radio stations in
the legislators' home districts.
, Loeb and his helpers do all of
the work. They time the
speeches and edit and cut them
to fit what program is needed.
All the politicians have to do is
talk.
For all of this Loeb gets his
fee cash the minute the work
is done.
Equal Rights Given
When a politician is cam
paigning or taking an off-season
jab at an opponent, the other
fellow has the right for equal
time on the air. That means an
other record for Loeb. As of
now, business is pretty good.
The rules governing whether
a man gets free time on the air
are rather complicated, but Loeb
is not too much concerned about
them. The point to make here is
that he gets his.
What happens after the plat
ters or tape recordings leave his
shop is of little concern to him.
"After I get paid," he said,
"They're on their own.".
