The picket, a member of the A. F. L. Vending Machine Service Employes Local 410, which is attempting to force music box operator to join the union, was picketing a cafe operating ' nonunion-serviced juke box. Pickin' Pears News, Gossip, Comment From Camp White By SID HOLLINGSWORTH Supplementing the work of three major service organiza tions In the hospitals and domi ciliaries of the Veterans Admin- latration is the contribution made by the so-called "fun" bodies. They 'are especially ac tive in Camp White programs. These groups are the "40 and 8" and the "8 and 40" men and women of the American Legion, Military Order of Cooties and the Military Order of Lady Bugs of the VFW, and the National Order of Trench Rats and the National Order of Alley Cats, affiliated with the DAV. The 40 and 8 has assisted and contributed financially to many of the Legion affairs and special features provided by Special Services for the members of the home. As an example, they were instrumental in bringing to the Camp White theater Ray and Odare, the Heidleberg Harmon tzers of radio fame performing regularly over 40 stations. It has Just been learned that they are planning to dedicate a song to Camp White veterans as soon as a poll 'is completed of the song to be sung. Ths "Cooties" and "Lady Bugs" are around every Thurs day of every week distributing cigarettes to non-compensated veterans. The popular feature of Travelsports on every fourth Friday followed by refresh ments is another of their offer ings. These activities are under supervision of Ernie Edmunds and Clyde Jessup for the MOC and Eleanor Sawyer and Mary Shulz for the MOLB. The "Trench Rats" and "Alley Cats offer games every fifth Wednesday and at frequent in tervals in between, as well as variety shows and exhibitions and contributions of rocks and gem mountings. Paul G. Olsen and Mrs. Olsen have this group in tow. Mrs. Martin Luther, of the Red Cross Gray Ladies staff, is making a canvass to find a half dozen patrons of the "immortal bard" among the members who would like to attend the Shake spearean Festival at Ashland. Four of the men have signed up for Julius Caesar. GI Joe is a member of the Camp White orchestra and plays a snappy banjo usually. But he has found another love in the accordion, and has patiently mastered its technique in a cor ner of the music room under Eve Prentice training. Me an nounces that he is ready to play Civil Suit Seeks $56,800 Damages A civil suit asking $50,000 general damages and $6,800 special damages has been filed by Frank Rowe, general deliv ery, Trail, against the Southern Oregon Sugar Pine corporation. according to circuit court rec ords. The complaint alleges that logs on a truck fell upon Rowe and resulted in dislocation of the left knee, including rupture of cer tain ligaments, and a fracture of his right ankle, as well as other specific leg injuries. It further stated that Rowe was perma nently injured and "will never again regain the full and com plete use of his left knee." Care lessness and negligence on the part of the defendant was al leged in the complaint. The injury occurred at the company's log pond on Nov. 7, 1950. Two Make Innocent Pleas in Court Two innocent pleas were en tered Wednesday before Circuit Judge H. K. Hanna by Charles Edward Cooper, general deliv ery, Eugene, and Paul Raymond Scofield, Lake hotel, Medford, according to District Attorney Paul Haviland. ' Both men had been indicted by previous grand juries, Sco field for larceny from a store building on April 18, and Coop er for attempting to obtain money under false pretenses. Leland Henry Thomas, 52, of 308 "B" street, Eagle Point, pleaded guilty on district at torney's information to a charge of contributing to the delin quency of a minor girl on July 23.
