Commander James Almond of World War II Veterans plans to go to Grant Pass for cere monies in connection with : the chartering of the auxiliary of the only other post of this or ganization in Oregon. According to reports Miss Betty Blackwood, local girl, and Bud Thompson of Wenatchee, Wash., were married recently in Grants Pass and are now living in Wenatchee.. The Aubrey Taylor combine has been doing some grain threshing in this section and Taylor reports grain yields bet ter than last year. Like a little boy who had at Klamath Falls suspended reg ular American Legion auxiliary office hours for two days, the cigarette distribution to "non comp" vets was conducted as scheduled Monday afternoon. The fishing club chose Elk creek for their angling this week while the wheel chair club goes to the Gladiola parade at Grants Pass Friday. Dorothea Glass, librarian, has an interesting four weeks in prospect. She left Saturday for Portland where she will meet a friend and together they will go by way of the Alaskan high way north as far as Fairbanks. After an extended visit through out the territory they will board a vessel at Seward and return home by sea. Chaplain Henry W. Anderson will be on military leave at Ft. Lewis, Wash., between August 3 and 17, and in his absence, the Rev. Perry Johnson of Temple Baptist church, Medford, will officiate. News of the fatal collapse of Sergeant Charles A. Smith at an off station party Saturday night was a shock to domiciliary members. Smith had charge of details and was well liked by the men. Assistant Manager Roy W. An derson is motoring through Cal ifornia on his two-week's vaca tion. found his lost teddy bear, Moore Hamilton, the dignified Medford postmaster, stopped in last Sun day and joyfully reported that he had found his lost boat. It was hidden in some brush on the south side of the river which the searchers had passed with out seeing, but the sharp eyes of Robert, the youngest Hamilton offspring, spied it. At the election held at the school house last Monday to vote on the formation of a rural fire control district and direct ors for the same, 39 votes were cast, 30 in favor, six against and three blank. Mrs. M. H. Goodlin is spend ing the week visiting relative, at Cocoran, Calif. Our many song birds which have been doing such marvelous singing all through the spring months are now passing the hat so to speak. The linnets, orioles and robins are taking their pay in Black Republican cherries, while the spring hatch of robins are taking their toll in the strawberry patch. Miss Maxine Gorden, a mis sionary with the Berian Mission Inc., who has recently spent sev eral years in the Belgian Congo showed pictures taken in the missionary field there, and many of the crude utensils used in their way of living, at the school house one evening last week. -We have just received a state ment in detail of the financial condition of Jackson county up to June 30. 1952, from the pres ent treasurer Ralph Sweeney, who is the first treasurer in o;ir remembrance who could give the county's financial condition on a- moment's notice. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Myers and niece, Miss Carol Myers left Saturday on a motor trip north that will take them as far as Seattle where they will visit relatives before returning by the coast highway. Bugs and insects of which there seems to- be countless numbers this year, took a beat ing here early Thursday when dust was poured on by airplanes flying over the clover and alfal fa fields while the big orchard blowers were shooting great quantities of dust upward from the ground. It is expected that a large num ber of relatives and old time friends will attend, bringing basket lunches. t Miss Donna Nealon, popular Table Rock girl, whose marriage to Robert Runn took place July 19 at the First Methodist church in Medford, carries with her the well wishes and hopes for a life of much happiness from her many friends here. Miss Nealon was active in 4-H club work and social activities in the commu nity. With a sunny disposition and high sense of humor she was a good pal who will be greatly missed. Prosecutor Robert Hensel said no charges would be filed until an insanity hearing could be conducted. Prothro said neighbors in formed him that, as far as they could recall, Matthias went to church for the first time last Sunday. They said he enjoyed a good reputation and was a '"fine man who seemed to love his family." He had no criminal record, and he owned a new house and two automobiles.
