'Atomic Groceries' Under Experiment Stanford, Calif. !U.R) Stores may feature "atomic groceries" which stay fresh for a long time, if experiments now being made are successful. Scientists at the Stanford Re search Institute think it may be one way to use the waste pro ducts from the atom-bomb plants. The food would be inexpensively bombarded with radiation, kill ing bacteria and retarding spoil age. The Atomic Energy Commis sion has asked the research sci entists to find ways of using the millions of gallons of atomic waste materials which are now being stored in huge tanks at the atomic plants. Another potential use for atomic waste is in sterilizing drugs. It probably can be done cheaply by radiation in compar ison to present high-cost meth ods, the scientists say.
