TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Society and Clubs Over Forty Attend Beagle Club Picnic The annual meeting of the Beagle club was held in Tou Velle park, Sunday, July 20, where more than 40 members gathered for a basket dinner. New officers elected to serve for the coming year were Belle Loftin, president; H. M. Harper, vice-president, and Charlotte Sweet, secretary-treasurer. Short talks were given about the various projects vital to the Beagle area, including an outline of the plans for securing an irri gation project. A report on the work of the REA in securing power for Beagle as well as other rural areas, was given by George Loftin. He also reported on his trip to confer with Army of ficials in San Francisco in regard to the status of Camp White. While there, Mr. Loftin was as sured the Beagle farms would not be endangered except in the eventuality of all-out war. The Beagle club was organ ized in 1944 as a re-union of former residents of the Beagle area, with Charles Haas as the first president. Toastmistress Club Hears of Convention Medford Toastmistress club had a picnic dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Thatcher, 210 Beatty street, Monday, July 21. Mrs. George Mclntyre, speak er of the evening, gave a talk entitled "Highlights of My Trip," in which she told about attend ing the Republican convention in Chicago. She was introduced by Miss Katrina Runtz, toastmis tress for the evening. Guests attending the picnic were Mrs. Hazeldeen Hohensee, Mrs. Lawrence Buonocore, and Miss Jo Williams. Mrs. P. W. Foster, president, appointed new officers for the committees, and then extempor aneous talks were given with Miss Mary Ann Wilson acting as topicmistress. Each speaker drew a subject and gave a speech on it. Luncheon Friday Jolly Stitcher will meet at the home of Mrs. Harry Bryant, 1312 Rddy avenue, Friday, Aug ust 1, for a 12 o'clock luncheon. Other officers installed to serve with her are Freda Mae Rawstern, vice-oracle; Charlotte Franklin, chancellor; Joan Read, music ian; Darlene Morrow, recorder; Frank Franklin, receiver; Den nis Barr, marshal; Clayton Cop sey, assistant marshal; Myrton Schaffer and Cecile Gidney, sen tinels; Evelyn Chew, patriot ism; Mary Ann Adams, service chairman; Rosemary Rawstern, marching musician. Larry Regester, Marshall Sel Iar and Leona Wright are the new managers. Miss Geraldine Gidney, out going oracle, placed the crown on the new oracle, and install ing officers were the Misses Mel va and Belva Chew, and Miss Helen Read assisted by Kathie Read and Tommy Stevess. 'Miss Gidney was installed as past oracle. For the event the hall was decorated in purple, white and gold, with picks, shovels and gold pans representing "golden opportunity. The outgoing oracle presented corsages to Mrs. Clayton Walk er, Mrs. Paul Morrow, Mrs Frank Gidney and Mrs. Robert Gilman. Gifts were given to Mrs Morrow, Mrs. Gidney, Mrs Walker, Mrs. Russel Zundel Mrs. Clarence Chew, Mrs. Gil man, Mrs. Katherine Fredricks, Mrs. Laura Scott, Kathie Read, Tommy Stevens, Miss Copsey and Miss Gidney. Mrs. Morrow was given a special honor by a group of juv enile girls in appreciation of her work and Miss Gidney gave her a past officers gift. A program was presented by a group of small girls from the Colleen Hope dance studio and accordion selections were played by the Misses Chew. Other sel ections wer played by Mrs. Al exander's Hawaiian band. Juveniles, their parents and guests were served refreshments by Mrs. Carl Pearson and her committee. The tables were ar ranged in the form of a cross. Flower arrangements, "gold" nuggets and a congratulatory center piece decorated the tables. Favors were in the form of gold and purple crowns. 4 Club Representatives Attending Convention Three valley women are in Hollywood, Calif., where they are attending a national contest convention at the Roosevelt ho tel. The three are members of the Medford Woodkrafters club and represent the club at the convention. They are Mrs. Jess Ragsdale, 513 Palm street; Mrs Clinton Charley and Mrs. Marie Dizney, both of Central Point Each has won numerous na tional contests. The group is staying at the hotel and they plan to make tours of Hollywood and radio and television studios. They also hope to participate in a "Queen for a Day" radio program since they have tickets to that show YMCA Soap Sale Helps Prospective Members The YMCA announces an op portunity for any boy or girl in Medford. nine years of age or older, to become a member of this organization by helping witn a soaD sale which starts today. Full instructions for those wish ing to participate may be had at the YMCA desk. No money is necessary to join in the sale. Last year over 50 boys and girls earned their YMCA mem berships through this means. Sev- eral found it possible to earn -35 V Monday, July 28, 19S2 Williams Entertaining Visitors from Hawaii At Several Parties Mr. and Mrs. Gayle Williams 619 South Ivy street, have been entertaining Mr. and Mrs. Alice Harrigan, Oahu, Hawaii, since their arrival in Medford, Wed nesday. Mr. Harrigan is a Veteran of Foreign Wars le-ader in the islands, and a retired Navy man. Mrs. Harrigan is a native Haw aiian, originally from the island of Molokai where she lived on her family estate. The Williams had met them on a vacation in Hawaii four years ago, and kept up a correspondence. Thursday evening the visitors were entertained with a party at the Williams home. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. James Wink ler and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Steph ens and family. Friday the Ste phens, Williams and Harrigans gathered at the Winkler home, 513 Dakota avenue, and Mrs. Harrigan showed the group an cient and modern hula dances. She accompanied herself on the ukelele and sang Hawaiian songs. Sunday the group had a pic nic near Yreka,' Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Orville C. Parmley will be included on the outing. Mr. and Mrs. Harrigan will remain in Medford until Thurs day when they will travel to California. Mr. Harrigan is a delegate to the VFW convention which will be held in Los Ang eles, August 3 to 8.
