At Convention John Parker, service manager of Crater Lake Motors company, left Thursday for San Francisco where he is at tending a Ford Convention. He will return to Medford Sunday. Lost Watch Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Pitts, route 2, box 455H, reported to the police Thursday that she had lost a gold watch somewhere in the vicinity of Sixth street and Central avenue. Visited Medford Mr. and Mrs. Edward Paschke, 892 Stew art avenue, entertained guests from Minneapolis, Minn., this week when Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Johnson came to Medford for a visit. Parents Here Mrs. Lauretta Kirsch and family, 932 Alta street, entertained her parents, Mr. and Mrs. U. J. Kirk, St. Paul, Ore., earlier this week. The Kirks are on their way to Cali fornia for a vacation. m m m Correction Through a typo graphical error, a story in Wed nesday's issue of The Mail Trib une incorrectly stated that a li cense for a card table at The Tavern, 43 South Front street, was removed by the city council. The story should have stated that the license was renewed by the council. The Phoenix class will receive instructions on Wednesday, Annual Picnic The annual basket picnic for Knights of Pythias and members of the DOKK and their families will be held all day Sunday, July 27, at the KP cave near Yreka, it was announced here today. Games, music and entertainment will be furnished, and luncheon will be held at 2 p.m. DST (1 p.m. stand ard time). Coffee, cream and ice cream will be furnished by the Yreka KP lodge. A DOKK re hearsal for a ceremonial at the cave August 2 will be held in the afternoon, Obituary GEORGE STACEY Services for George W. Sta cey, 86, who died Tuesday ia Sacramento, were held this morning in Conger-Morris chap el, with the Rev. Perry Johnson officiating. Committal was in Medford Mausoleum. Mr. Stacey was born In Mis souri on Nov. 7, 1865, and moved to Sams Valley in 1888 He. made his home in the Beagle district until 1924, when he moved to Casis, Calif. His wife. Minnie, preceded him in death in 1928. Surviving are two sons, Roy, Stockton; George R., Tulelake Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Al berta Jones and Mrs. Flora Mor gan, both of Sacramento, and Mrs. Odessa Marshall, Palm Spring, Calif.; and two sisters Mrs. Flora Linville. Klamath Falls, and Mrs. Julia Seale, Readley, Calif. Pool Officials Still Seek Vintage Clothes Swim suits, of any vintage from 1890 to 1930, are still need ed for the annual Hawthorne park water pageant, sponsors of the event reported again today They are also seeking clothing from the same period, according to Ed Knapp, pool supervisor. State forest patrolmen said they were start ed by the flaming brakes of a logging truck en route to Med ford. The fires were first reported about 2:35 p.m. by people in the area who saw the truck go by, spewing flame onto both sides of the road. Workers at the Swanson Lumber company saw it, and put a fire crew to work immediately. The fires were nearly under control by the time state forest department crews arrived from Medford and Mc Leod, and the warden from Trail. The identity of the truck driv er was not learned, and it is pos sible he was not aware of the flames his truck was causing, although the brakes were burn ed completely out, and parts of them were found along the road. It is believed the emergency brake was left on by mistake. The largest fire was about an acre, next-largest about a quarter-acre, with the others con fined to small areas. They were scattered along the road for a mile and a half. Six delegates angrily snatch ed up their state standard and stalked from the hall shortly be fore midnight, after accusing Permanent Chairman Sam Ray bum of "gross unfairness" for allowing two Louisiana dele gates to vote for their entire delegation. Delegates Return After a cooling-off period of less than an hour, the South Da kotans marched back in again, with George A. Bangs, chairman of the- delegation, announcing, 'We are back to stay." The walkout stemmed from the long convention wrangle over enforcing the loyalty pledge against three Southern delegations. Anyone going in business in Medford must have a new license by then, he said. DRIVER INJURED Mrs. Mildred A. Ray, 723 Oak street, was slightly injured this morning in an automobile acci dent at West 10th and South Orange streets, according to the city police. She was treated and released at Community hospital. She was driving a car that col lided with a city dump truck driven by Alva D. Baird, 235 TipRarr avenue. Damage was slight, police said. Bangs arose to say that the South Dakota delega tion was "leaving the floor in protest." Six of eight delegates left, their standard bobbing through the packed aisles. Then started a sweatv eame of hare-and-hounds as reporters ! ana photographers scampered through the crowd behind the irate Dakotans. Change of Heart Then Bangs had a change of heart almost immediately and started back to the hall, carry ing the standard proudly aloft. Bangs made a few checks on the floor, then trotted to the Stockyard Inn to retrieve the rest of his delegation. Once everybody was back to gether again in the convention, the chairman said, "We never intended to leave the Democrat- J ic Party. I "I lost my temper. I cooled off j and came back." Rayburn was quite miffed by the "grossly unfair" label placed on his ruling by Bangs and his colleagues. The man who has been speaker of the House long er than anyone in U.S. history told the convention it was the first time in all his life that any body ever challenged his fairness.
