r . . Farm Safety Week Noted by McKay; Slogan Suggested Salem (U.R Next week ' is National Farm Safety week and Gov. Douglas McKay has called on Oregon farmers and their workers to observe the occasion. He urged adoption of the week's theme: "Adopt right attitudes: Think Safety act safely." The accident prevention divi sion of the State Industrial Ac cident Commission said the farm accident record for 1951 was slightly higher than the 1950, with 2,252 accidents reported by agricultural concerns covered under the workmen's compensa tion act. These included three fatalties and 1,508 time-loss ac cidents. Ninety-two were listed as, victims of occupational -disease. Farm occupations in which the greatest number of accidents occured included: General farm hand, 59 per cent, fruit picker, 13 per cent, carpenter, 3 per cent, tree pru ner, 2 per cent, and tractor op erator, 1 per cent. Gold Hill Gold Hill A second election on the Gold Hill city budget will be held Friday, July 18, from 1 pjn. to 7 p.m. at the city hall. Although the budget was passed by a majority of voters in May, an error in the posting date at that time makes it necessary to hold the election again. Amount of the budget remains the same. A public hearing on the budget will be held July 17, the day before the election, at 8 p.m. at the city halL Friendly Circle will meet Fri day noon for a potluck luncheon and social afternoon, at the home of Mrs. Dale Clements on Galls creek. Gold Hill Hobby club met Fri day night at the home of Mrs. Daniel Stewart on Fifth avenue. Twelve members were present. Mrs. Stewart announced that the club had been asked to have a booth at the carnival to be held Friday night, July 25, on the city hall lawn. The carnival is being held by several local clubs to secure funds for fixing up the community clubroom in the Odd Fellows building. - Hobby club members agreed to have the booth, with each member to do nate one or two hobby craft articles, with proceeds from the sale of the items to be given to the clubroom project. Refresh ments were served by the hos tess. Next meeting was sched uled for Friday, July 18, at 8 p.m., at the home of Mrs. Wil liam Rockford on North 99 highway. The annual picnic of the Sun day school of Gold Hill Com munity Methodist church was held Sunday at TouVelle State park on Rogue river. A large crowd attended. The afternoon was devoted to ball-playing and other games and contests. Re freshment chairmen were Mrs. Fred Lester and Wilraer Bailey. Pfc. Linsley Dotson of the U. S. Marine Corps, son of Mrs. Maybelle Rains of the Old Stage road, is being sent back into the front lines in Korea, after recovering from wounds receiv ed in action last month, accord ing to word received from him by his mother and his grand mother, Mrs. George Dorman of Second avenue. He had expected to be sent home, as he has been in Korea more than a year and was due to come home under the rotation plan. The rest of his outfit was sent back to the United States while he was in the hospital, according to his letter. Guests last week of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bell on Second ave nue were Mrs. Bell's mother, Mrs. Fern Herron, and Miss Amelia Olson, both of Peoria, 111. The two visitors arrived July 4 on a seven weeks tour of the west coast. They flew by plane from Chicago to San Francisco. It was the first trip west for Miss Olson. Mrs. Herron visited her daughter and family two years ago. The two women left Friday for San Francisco, Los Angeles and down into Mexico. They will return home by way of Denver. A July 4 picnic on the Rogue river in Sams Valley was enjoy ed by a group of Gold Hill resi dents including Mr. and Mrs. John Jore, Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Rockford, Mr. and Mrs. Don borrow, Mr. and Mrs. J. Les Graffis on North 99 Highway was enjoyed by members of the Gold Hill Busi ness and Professional Women's club and their families. Dinner was served on the lawn. Present in addition to the Graffis family were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bell and two children, Pamela aid Charles; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mol loy and sons, Donald and David; Mr. and Mrs. William Rockford, Mrs. Ralph Bell and Mrs. Daniel Stewart. It was announced that no further club meetings will be held until September. Miss Marion Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Smith of Sardine creek, left Sat urday to spend a week at Camp McGruder, summer camp for women of the Methodist church. Mrs. Smith had planned to ac company her daughter, but did not go because of the illness of her father, Jim Smith of Med ford. He is a former resident of Sardine creek and is also the father of Mrs. Melvin Burnett of Sardine creek. Mrs. S. M. Christensen of North 99 highway is in Sacred Heart hospital in Medford where she underwent surgery Friday. George Scott of Garden Row is in the Community hospital in Medford for a surgical operation. Findley Wray, 17 - year - old grandson of the Rev. and Mrs. H. A. Dierdorff, arrived Thurs day from Oakland, Calif., to spend the summer at the Dier dorff home on the Upper River road. He plans to work in the orchards while he is here. Mrs. Vernon Divers left Sun day for Quincy, Wash., after spending two weeks here visit ing her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Holderness of Fifth avenue. Mrs. Divers and her husband will spend the summer in Quincy and will return to Pullman, Wash., in the fall, where both are teachers at the University of Washington. Pvt.
