July 14, 1952 Society and Clubs President Names Committee Heads For Prospect Club Prospect The new execu tive board of Prospect Lions Auxiliary was announced by the ' president, Mrs. Heston Grieve, at the July 10 meeting at Un ion Creek. Members appointed are Mrs. Lowell Ash, budget; Mrs. Luke Biden, welfare; Mrs. Darwin Bevens, hostess; Mrs. Jim Clev enberg, lioness; Mrs. Lewis Clevenburg, historian; Mrs. Jack Hollenbeak, project; Mrs. George Hubbard, publicity; Mrs. John ny Davidson, by-laws; and Mrs. Don Vaughn, flowers. New members, of the group are Mrs. Charles Darling, Mrs. Otto Kohler, and Mrs. Bruce Pingle. Plans for the booth at the Jamboree were announced, and those who wish to help are to contact Mrs. Hollenbeak. Two Medford Women On California Trip Mrs. H. H. Corliss, 938 South Holly street, and her sister, Mrs. O. D. Frazee, 525 West Second street, left Saturday for a two week vacation in California. In Wilmington they will visit Mrs. Frazee's daughter, Mrs. Lois Bergman. En route south they will visit Mrs. Corliss' brother- in-law, Webster Corliss, and also Mr. and Mrs. Eric Wold and Mrs. Madeline Gerdes, all of the bay area and all former Medford residents. Drapers Here Mrs. Jack Draper and her sons. Jack and Jonathan, Al bany, are spending a few weeks fn Medford with Mrs. Draper's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Schmidt, South Pacific highway. The past two . week-ends Mr. Draper has flown to Medford in his private plane to visit the Schmidts and his family. Returns Miss Pauline Kruggel has re turned to her home at 428 Berry dais avenue after spending a i week's vacation on the coast and in Portland. Weekly Session Held By Camp White Club; Winners Announced Camp White Camp White Veterans Bridge club held the weekly meeting Thursday at the camp, with both Medford towns people and Camp White resi dents playing. North - South winners were Frank R. Baker and N. Lith- adiotis, 39Vi points, first; Paul R. Hatton and Mrs. Burton R Sims, 37Vi points, second; Mrs Thomason and Ed Mathias, third, 37 points; Mrs. Hatton and R. Morton, 35, fourth. Burton R. Sims and John Le vine took first for east-west plays, scoring 38Vi points. Oth er winners were Thomas Munds and Mr. Helder, 34, second; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Scarseth, 33, third; Mrs. Fred Purdin . and John Foley, 29, fourth. Shady Cove Hostesses Give Shower and Party Shady Cove-Trail Mrs. Dick Bartuss and Mrs. Kenneth Paul son, both of Shady Cove, were hostesses at the home of Mrs. Dick Bartuss Wednesday after noon for a shower honoring Mrs. Wesley Jones of Shady Cove. A number of games were played and refreshments served. Mrs. Jones was given a bassinette. Present . were Mesdames Wil liam Bishop, Max Hawks, Arley Spain, Elmer Straight, Jerry Hicks, Glenn Collins, Carroll Watson, Dale Sawyer, Ernest Golberg, Lester Harris all of Shady Cove, and Grant Hubbell of Trail. Plan Shower Phoenix At a meeting of the Ladies' Aid society of Phoenix Presbyterian church last Satur day, plans were made for a bri dal shower for Miss Beverly Wilson. The shower will be giv en Thursday, July 17, at 8 p.m. in the church parlor and friends of Miss Wilson are invited to attend. Anti-Hail Pilot Corrects Article Eugene Kooser, one of the pil ots under contract here to seed clouds in attempts to prevent hail, said today that a story in Sunday's Mail Tribune miscon strued a report he had made regarding a flight made Fri day. The story said a hail-threatening formation might have come into the valley unless seed ed," but Kooser pointed out that what he had said was that hail from the cloud might have come into the valley. The cloud formation was not headed this way, he added, and seeding would have no effect on its di rection. " However, hail sometimes is thrown from such high clouds for great distances, he pointed out. It was against this threat that the seeding flights were made, Kooser said. Robinson of Rogue Riv er National Forest service was guest speaker at the July 9 meet ing of Roxy Gardeners at Haw thorne park. He talked on conservation, stressing reseeding and replant ing. Mr. Robinson said that it was important to be careful of campfires, as many trees were destroyed each year by fire. Al so there "was a discussion on keeping the park grounds clean. This was the last regular meet ing of Roxy Gardeners for the summer. A picnic lunch follow ed the business meeting. - Family Here Mrs. Charles Ugaldea and children of Winnemucca, Nev., spent the past week as guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Semple, 626 South Holly street. The vis itors are spending this week with relatives in Phoenix. Mrs. Ugaldea is the former Jeanette McAbee of Medford. Visit Victoria Mr. and Mrs. Tom Vestal, Eagle Point, and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Semple, 332 Crater Lake avenue, have returned home after a trip to Victoria, B.C. Medford Delegates Attend Apostolic Faith Camp Meet More than 225 delegates from the Medford Apostolic Faith church, North Central avenue and Third street, are attending the 45th annual convention camp meeting of the faith in Portland. Many Medford representatives have an active part in the con vention, which is scheduled to end July 20. The Rev. Clarence W. Frost is essissting in min isterial work. The young peo ple's orchestra is conducted by the Rev. Norman Allen. Eight Medford people sang with the 125-voice choir in the presentation of the cantata, ' From Darkness to Light." They were Sarah Bishop, Betty James, Hazel Craig, Beatirce Frohreich, Edamae Adamson, Efton Jones, John Frieson and Robert James. Instrumentalists Mrs. Norman Allen and Asher Neff played in the orchestra, and Mrs. Allen also played her violin in special preludes. The camp meeting was the oc casion of several family re unions. Mr. and Mrs.' Roy Wal lace were reunited with sons and daughters and their families from Portland, Eureka and San Francisco. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Bishop and Medford members of the Bishop family met other children and brothers and sis ters from Portland and from Chehalis, Wash. Ex-Medford Woman Dies After Accident Mrs. Evelyn Margaret Smith, who moved from Medford four months ago, died Saturday in Vallejo,- Calif. She was the daughter of Jessie Green, 122 Tripp street Mrs. Smith worked at the Pittsburgh Plate Glass company when she lived in Medford. She died from injuries incurred in an automobile accident Satur day. Survivors, .other than her fa ther, include two children, Betty Joan and Charles David, both of Vallejo; five brothers, Roy, of Wisconsin, Leslie, of Iowa, Melvin, of Nebraska, Raleigh, of .Yreka, Calif., and Raymond, of Bakersfield, Calif., a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Williams, Vallejo, and a step-sister,- Mrs. Duke Guile, Medford. .
