Horn on Laavt Petty Officer Third Class Donald C. Allen, IL S. Navy, is home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Allen, 801 North Central street, on leave from San Diego Air Base. Allen has been in the serv ice three years after attending Medford High school. School Begins Bible School at Phoenix church of the Naza rene will begin the first session of its daily vacation teachings at 9 a. m. Monday, July 14. The school will be held Monday through Friday for the next two weeks, under the supervision of Mrs. Verl Michael, with class es for all ages. Guests From Omaha Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Parke, 114 East 11th street, are their daughter, Mrs. Gladys Murphy, grandaughter, Mrs. Lorraine Nelson, and great grandson, Gary. They plan to stay three weeks. Mrs. Murphy is the sister of Mrs. Ann May, 304 Ashland avenue. Relatives Here Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Schmidt, 3468 Del ta Waters road, have as their guests Mrs. Schmidt's two sis ters, Mrs. Fay Draper and chil dren, Gayl and Tommy, and Miss Thelma Newman, and her brother, N. C. Miller, all of Oceanside, Calif. While on their week visit, they plan to see Crater Lake. Hera For Funeral Mrs. Harry Daily, 33 Tripp street, has as her guests this week her niece, Mrs Walter Shelton and cousin, Ho- bert Dickey, both of Porterville. Calif. They arrived last week end to attend the funeral of Dickey's brother, Tom Dickey, Jacksonville .which was held Monday, July 7. The guests plan to return home Saturday. Los Angeles Visitors Mrs. Adrienne Steward, 1 Eastwood drive, has been entertaining Mr. and Mrs. Lou Kahn and son, Chuckie, Los Angeles, this week. The Kahns left Thursday to re turn home. Hospital Patient A surgery patient at Osteopathic hospital Thursday was Miss Zethel Par sons, 176 Reager avenue, attend ants reported. Miss Juanita White, 331 West 6th street, was a tonsillectomy patient. In Korea Pvt. William C. Baxter, 39 Myres court, now is serving with the 2nd Infantry division in Korea, an Army press release stated. Formerly station ed at Camp Roberts, Calif., Bax ter is now serving as a rifleman. Conference Set The pre school conference for the Oak Grove school district will be held at the Oak Grove school from 1 to 4 p. m. Monday, July 14. Dr. A. E. Merkel will be in charge of the conference assisted by Mrs. R. Kanzler. Visit Daughter Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Platz and Miss Dana Lee Platz, 1512 Wilson place, returned this week from a trip to Eugene. While there they visited Mr. and Mrs. L. Kihn. Mrs. Kihn is the daughter-of Mr. and Mrs. Platz. Tonsils Removed Richard Hawkins, 919 Footman avenue, had his tonsils removed at Sac red Heart hospital Thursday, at tendants reported. Medical pa tients were Mrs. Norman Mag nus, Crater hotel, and Mrs. Soren Christensen, Gold Hill. Army Sportscaster Cpl. Her bert Bruce Y'Blood Jr. son of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Y'Blood Sr., 1217 Withington street, is now a sportscaster for the Armed Forces radio service in Linz, Austria. His picture was recently in Stars and Stripes. Before en tering the Army two years ago, Cpl. Y'Blood graduated from Medford high school and attend ed Colorado State college. Has Rest Leave Pfc. Robert B. Stuart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Miles Stuart, 1029 Queen Ann street, recently returned to the 25th Division in Korea after a five-day rest and" recuperation leave in Japan. A jeep driver in the motor pool in headquarters company, Pfc. Stuart has been in Korea since last January. He graduated from Medford high school and attended the Univer sity of Oregon and Southern Ore gon college before joining the Army in January, 1951. Prices rose in all sections with steels setting the pace. Net gains extended to more than a point in a long list of issues. Metals followed the steels. Aircrafts strengthened on the Republican statements advocat ing a large Air Force. Pressure lifted from the rails and they rose easily. Non-iron metals joined the ad vance with wide gains in the leading issues. Motors lurched ahead with the steels. Oils, strong in recent sessions, extended their gain and were fairly active. D. E. Millard off iciating. Interment will take place, in the Jacksonville cemetery. Ashland Fire Damages Estimated at $10,000 '" Ashland Fire which was thought to have been started by sparks from a burner des troyed about 70,000 board feet of timber in a log deck Thurs day at the Paul Workman Lum ber company in Ashland.' Workman estimated the loss at approximately $10,000. , , The owner said he noticed the blaze about 4 p. m. It got away from millmen and the fire de partment was summoned. Fire men battled the blaze for about two hours. Only- a part of the log deck was burned. Workmen said the fire will not badly hamper mill operations. A special attraction at Lon don's Drury Lane theatre in 1746 was an actor who undertook to devour a 12-pound plum cake in three bites.
