FOUR MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE sday July 10. 1952 Society and Clubs School Announces Honor Students Miss Sally Cooney, Medford student at Willamette university, was one of the university stu dents who earned a straight A record during the past spring semester, a release from the school states. Miss Cooney is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W J. Cooney, 717 Dakota avenue. Miss Shirley M. ,Hutchinson and Miss Barbara L. Manley, both Medford, were among the group of students who earned grades between 3.5 and 3.999. MiS3 Hutchinson is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keva Hutchinson, 22 Keeneway drive, and Miss Manley is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett T. Manley, King street. Also in the latter scholastic group was Miss Laural Jewett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Jewett, Central Point. Canadian Family Visits in Medford Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Paul and children, Larry, Kenny and Mavis, Rossland, B. C, are guests in Medford of Mr. and Mrs. George Mero, 1615 Thomas road. Rotana Announces Benefit Project For Oregon Society The Oregon Society for Crip pled Children and Adults through Medford Rotana club is staging a one-day "give with gas drive." All day Saturday, July 12, pro ceeds from the triple-pump gas stationed at Eleventh and South Central avenue will be devoted to furthering the services offered by the society. Mrs. C. B. Partch, Jackson county chairman and district president for the society, pointed out that not only will the sta tion give its profits, but local business men will service the cars which buy gasoline. Rotana members will stand by to clean windshields, make change and distribute balloons and lollipops to junior motorists. Mrs. Partch added that "an opportunity to give painlessly to a good cause doesn't arrive too often, and said the venture is "typical of the all-out coopera tion from local merchants which has been given the Oregon Soci ety for Crippled Children and adults. Rogue River Club Announces Meeting Rogue River Rogue River Garden club will meet Tuesday, July 15, at the home of Mrs. Jim Whipple, Rogue River. Mrs. Laura Doflglas, program chairman, has planned a number of unusual programs for months to come. In attendance, she has made plans for an attendance prize, which will be awarded to some member who arrives before the starting time of 1 p.m. Newly elected officers of the club attended a meeting Wednes day in the home of Mrs. Wallace A. Freeland, Central Point. Mrs." Freeland is the new Siskiyou district chairman of Oregon Fed eration of Garden clubs, and plans for work in the district the coming year were formulated. A committee is meeting at the home of Mrs. Paul Hughes today to work on an exhibit which will be entered in the Josephine county fair. Mrs. Carl Christen sen is in charge of the exhibit. Return Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Gray and daughter, Suzanne, 18 Modoc avenue, returned home Sunday after spending the week-end at Currier Village on Ten Mile Lake on the Oregon coast. Mr Gray went deep sea fishing din ing the vacation. Gold Hill Yoman, Son Take Extended Trip . Gold Hill Mrs. Carl Mays and her son, Buddy, left Satur day for an extended trip to Cal ifornia and other states. They planned to visit Mrs. Dorothy Johnson, former Gold Hill resi dent, in Paradise, Calif., and then visit W. W. Mathis and family in San Diego; Mrs. Edna Shook, an aunt of Mrs. Mays, in Los Angeles; and Mrs. Stella Wilson and family in Compton. The two travelers will then go to Grand Junction, Colo., to visit William Boggus, a brother of Mrs. Mays; to Albuquerque, N. M., to see another brother, George Boggus; to Santa Fe to spend a few days with a niece of Mrs. Mays, Mrs. Bayle Baker, and Bud Boggus, another broth er. They also planned a trip through Carlsbad Caverns and a visit with Mrs: Don Phillips, a sister of Mrs. Mays, at Las Cruces, N. M. Mrs. Mays and her son plan to return to Gold Hill when school starts in September. Dur ing their absence, their home on Tenth street is being occupied by Mrs Harriet Elliott. Captain Assigned To Overseas Duty Capt. James K. Hoey left last night for Camp Stoneman, Calif., where he will report for overseas duty with the army. Captain Hoey has spent the past month visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Hoey, 48 Quince street. The captain's wife will make her home here with Mr. and Mrs, Hoey Sr., while the officer is on overseas duty. 4 Junior Club Degree of Honor Junior club will meet Saturday, July 12, at Hawthorn park from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The meeting will be conducted in the picnic area, ac cording to Mrs. H. G. Wilson, junior director, and a swimming party will follow. 4 From Montana - Mrs. Lila M. Johnson of Sid ney, Mont., has arrived in Med ford to spend a month with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs E. R. McKinstry, Phoenix.
