The girl was placed in cus tody of Mrs. Noma White, Mar ion county juvenile officer, who said the young lady hitch-hiked the entire distance to Salem. Mrs. White said the girl was al most exhausted when found by the night watchman. She denied having any difficulty with her parents but expressed a desire to remain with Mrs. White. State house habitues who' look ed at the-jagged waist-high break in the door expressed amaze ment that the young lady from Indiana had not be badly cut in getting through the self-made entry. Mrs. White summed it up in a masterpiece of understate ment: "This is one of the most pecu liar, cases I have encounted in many years." UAL Observes 2nd Airlift Anniversary More than 15,500 troops have been flown to and from Tokyo by United Air lines since the start of Korean hostilities, ac cording to Station Manager Walt Carson, United Air lines, Med ford. . . Unjted entered, the airlift ex actly two years ago, diverting planes from regular schedules. Its pilots have flown over 8,675, 000 miles on trans-Pacific flights for the Military Air transport service. The company has carried 200 tons of whole blood and other medical shipments, 1,700 tons of matt and 2,880 tons of freight in the tworyear period. It also hag hauled approximately 250 tons of ammunition. United has five DC-4's assign ed "to the airlift. They fly an average monthly distance of 300, 000 miles, according to Carson.
