I On The Side (Distributed by Kji On neart's enough for me. One heart to love, adore; One heart's enough lor me, O, who could wish for more? This is a!I I ask. One gentle form and fair. Beneath whose smile to bask And learn love's sweetness there. Levi Cheyney There certainly are a number of nasty cracks being tossed at husbands these days. A United States Government report depicts the average mar ried man as a senisn guy. u says husbands in this country spend more on themselves than on their wives. This, says the re port, includes expenditures on clothes I view this report with much skepticism, especially the part about clothes. Looks to me like a bid for feminine vote. Sidelights Of the eight wives Tommy Manville has had, only one, Georgina Campbell, has been a brunette. ... It was Bruce Bar ton who said: "Conceit is God's gift to little minds." . . . Though It was once considered danger ous for a woman over 40 to have a blessed event, it now seems a common occurence. I just read of a woman of 43 giving birth to her fifteeenth child. "It is not my last," says she. "I hope to have twenty-one children." H. Was There- A' New Yorker claiming mem- bershin in the "I Was There Club" says he was there when Jim Jeffries and Tom Sharkey met in that memorable bout at the Coney Island A. C. Brook lyn. This man says he was also present at the recent Joey Maxim-Rav Robinson bout. "It was plenty hot in the ring when Robinson collapsed," says he, "but not nearly as torrid ,as in that ring at Coney Island. Four hundred arc lamps, used for the filming of the bout, blazed down on the fighters. The ring had been made smaller to help the filming. Jeffries and Shar key were really toasted and roasted but they fought like demons for twenty-five rounds No collapse there. Ringmen were really men in those days. The current boxers are a brittle lot. Aiking Queries from clients. Q. Did Jfva Tanguay ever appear in the Ziegfeld Follies? A. Eva was In the Follies of 1909 in a truly all-star cast which included Nora Bayes, Jack Norworth, Gertie Vanderbilt, Mae Murray, Bessie Clayton and Lillian Lorraine. . . Q. Who wrote the song titled "The H. V. Kaltenborn Blues?" Joe E. Lewis featured this num ber. A. The witty ditty you re fer to was written by Dan Sha piro, one of the innumerable brilliant songwriters born in the beautiful borough of Brooklyn. Passing By " ' Lois De Fee. Statuesque night spot entertainer. Miss De Fee, who is six feet two inches tall and weighs 190 pounds, was a recent winner in an eating con test. Asides Nearly 2,000,000 more wom en than men will be eligible to vote in the coming presidential election. Most women now vote the way their husbands do, but it might be different if there were a feminine candidate for president . . . The Japanese are now manufacturing practically everything and selling it in the world market at cut rates. Re cently a Japanese firm won out over a British manufacturer for an order for railway engines and coaches for Pakistan. Horses and Women Three times as many women as men suffer from foot trouble Most of difficulties or this type that females have is due to high heels. Foot trouble makes woman irritable. She says mean things to her loving husband Domestic dissension results. De spite the suffering incurred there is little hope women will ever abandon high heels. Even tall women wear them. High heels make legs appear more attrac tive. That increases a woman s male appeal. She is willing to pay for that with a little suffer. mg. Perhaps some day some in ventive genius will originate a safe and sane high heel. Mean while, husbands of high heel en thusiasts who suffer from foot trouble and so develop a nasty temper will just have to grin and bear it, poor fellows. Veteran Missionaries Return From Japan Boston U.R) Two sisters, natives of Enfield, Conn., who together have given 76 years of service as Christian educators under the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Mis- sions in Japan, have returned to the United States.
