July 4. 1952 Society and Clubs Lake HomesFilled, With Holiday Guests; Holmes Plan Dinner Cabins and summer homes at Lake o' Woods will be filled this week-end with vacationers en joying some time away from business and ordinary, home du ties. Many of the lake colonists have Invited friends to share the July Fourth holiday fun. - Among tihose giving parties are Mr. and Mrs. David Holmes. The Holmes have invited several guests for the week-end, and tonight they will give a dinner for other . friends and their guests spending the holiday in near-by cabins. The dinner guests will number 35. Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Thierolf are spending the week-end at the lake, and have .as guests Mr. and Mrs. Donald E. Her ried and Mr. and Mrs. Rupert James Henry. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Olson and family, are at their lake home for the holiday week-end, with. Mr. and Mrs: I. E. Staples as guests. Guests of Mr. and , Mrs. W.' Garland Jones for a week-end at the lakOj are Mr. and Mrs. Carl E. Wimberly Jr., Mr. "and Mrs. Wright Scoville John Hamacher, Mr. and Mrs. John Reid and Miss Calista Farrell. Mr. and Mrs. David Koblik and Mr. and Mrs. Berwick Wood are spending the holiday at Lake o' Woods as guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Keeble at the Kee ble cabin. At Beach Miss Jean Runtz is spending the July Fourth week-end with a group of Gamma Phi Beta sorority sisters at Seaside, Ore. Miss Runtz, who attends Oregon State college, is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Runtz, 101 Cottage street. She will return Sunday. Miss Shirley Cooper Honored at Showers Preceding Marriage. Shady Cove Miss Shirley Cooper has been honored at a number of "bridal showers in re cent dayst Miss Cooper.-sdaugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Coop er, and Lee Cushman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cushman, both Trail, was hostess for a dinner and shower which honored .Miss Cooper. Guests were Mesdames C. . R. Cooper, mother of the bride, Carl Scott, Steve Wilson, Robert Sanderson, Jack Carlton and Albert Johnson and Misses Elizabeth C u s h ma n, Myrna Scott, Alice Wilson, Claudia Ash and the guest of honor, Miss Cooper. Women of Trail Community church gave a linen shower for Miss Cooper at the old Trail schoolhouse. Mrs. Bert Rags- dale, Mrs., Jack Carlton and Miss Myrna Scott, all Trail, were hostesses. A decorated . cake, made by Mrs. Shirley Oliver, was used as a centerpiece for the refreshment table. Guests were Mesdames Wayne Ash, Ed Cushman, Gene Ander son, Steve Wilson, Albert John son, Bob Sanderson, S. Wagler, Charles Cooper and Russell El der, all Trail; Joseph Bowdoin, Veronica Cooper, John Stille, Shady Cove; Walter" Hutchins, Eagle Point, and the Misses Claudia Ash, Elizabeth Cush man and Alice Wilson, Trail. . Festival Announces Technical Director Ashland Gerald LeGrande, for the past year shop foreman and production manager for the Stanford Players, has been named technical director, for the Oregon Shakespearean festival this summer. The new technical director will also assist William Patton, veteran festival lighting direc tor,, in that phase of festival activity. Mr. LeGrande, formerly of Detroit, Mich., ran a theater service called Pierre's Studio in Pianist To Play On Standard Hour The Standard Hour has an nounced that one of two guest artists for the program Sunday, July 6, will be Miss Paulena Carter, pianist. Miss Carter, who has relatives in both Ashland and Medford, has visited in the valley many times and during the 1950-51 concert season ap peared in Medford in a concert sponsored by Medford Musical society. Miss Carter will play "Cielito Lindo," Ponce; the third move ment of the "Concerto in F" by Gershwin; the Italian Royal March" by Gabetti and "Claire de Lune'' by Debussy. The broadcast will feature the Standard Symphony orchestra of San Francisco, directed' by Carmen Dragon. Soprano Eileen Christie will be the second fea tured artist. Medford Men Return From Canadian Trip Everett Castner, his son, Ever ett Jr., and Eugene Cass return ed . the first of the week from a fishing trip into Canada. The trip was by way. of Okanogan county in Washington, and the Caribou trail in Canada. The men report, excellent catches of fish at Horse Fly lake, where trout up to eight pounds were caught. However, fishing at Kamloops lake for the famous big Kamloops trout was poor, with no catches reported at the time .the Medford men were there. It rained much of the time the travelers were in Can ada, and the men found" roads in poor shape. 1 Bridge Club Holds Master Point Night Medford Duplicate club ob served master point night when the group met Tuesday at the Medford hotel for the weekly play. North-south winners were Mrs. T. J. Fuson and George Rode, first with 87 points; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hatton, second. 86 ; Mrs. George Codding and Palo Alto, in addition to his duties at the university. Walter Weller, Ashland, was the main speaker at the Talent center of the Farm Bureau which met Tuesday eve ning at the .Valleyview school house in Ashland. His talk con cerned the proposed Bangs Con trol amendment and was fol lowed by discussion. The center acted in favor of several resolutions from other Farm Bureau counties. The possibility of having the, State Convention of the Oregon Farm Bureau in Jackson Countv in 1954 -was discussed. An enouncement was made that John Kessler and A. L. Lemley are now qualified agents for the Oregon Farm Bureau Insurance company, a service for all Farm Bureau members. Other services such as fertilizer and paint will also be avalable to members. To broadcast - It was announced that Jackson County Farm bureau will broad cast a public service feature on the first day of each month at 4:45 p.m. over KMED. This pro gram is designed for the infor mation of public on Farm Bu reau organization and policies and iscussions on current issues. John Mitchell of Talent was elected, president; Ross Twedell, vice president; Mrs. A. L. Lem ley, secretary - treasurer; Mrs. Ross Twedell, chairman of the Associated Women; and A. L. Lemley, delegate to the county. Refreshments were served. The next meeting will be Aug ust 5, at the Valleyview school house. The county meeting is held the second Thursday of every month, the next being July 10 at the Jackson county courthouse, Medford.
