TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Society and Clubs Couples Entertain At Mexican Party Saturday Evening Mr. and Mrs. W. Garland Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Reid were hosts for a party last Saturday evening, entertaining at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Al fred S. V. Carpenter, Mrs. Jones parents. . Mexico was the party's theme and guests came in costume." A number of guests created a stir by arriving together with all the women dressed like Car men, complete with rosebuds, and their escorts and husbands dressed as matadors. Invitations to the event had been written in Spanish. Mexican foods were served, and the guests drank from small painted gourds. About 75 guests were present. Gold HillTpWHad Holds First Meeting; Announce Committees Gold Hill Mrs. Thelma Bell, newly installed president of the Gold Hill Business and Profes sional Women's club, conducted her first meeting Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. Edith Graf fis. North 99 highway. Mrs. Bell presented a past president's pin guard to the re . tiring president, Mrs. Vera Stew art. The guard was the gift of the club. Committee chairmen for the coming year .were appointed by Mrs. Bell. They are Mrs. Betty Molloy, membership; Mrs. Stew art, public affairs and publicity; Mrs. Belle Smith, education and vocations; Mrs. Agnes McLallen, health and safety Mrs. Elsie Davidson, legislation; Mrs. Cath erine Rockford, finance and scrap-book. Two visitors and prospective members were present,. Mrs. Mary Schrecengost, co-owner of the Laurels Motel, North 99 highway, and Mrs. Jeanne Bosse, co-owner of the Chinook Sport ing Goods store in Rogue River. Plans were made for a potluck picnic dinner for members, pros pective members, and their fam ilies to be held Saturday, July 12, at 7 p.m. at the Graffis home. Coleman was elect ed president of Sojourners' club when the group met June 26 at the Medford hotel. Others named to office were Mrs. U. S. Lair, first vice-president; Mrs. T. J. Parker, second vice-president; Mrs. Charlotte McCullough, sec retary and Mrs. T. B. Keig, treasurer.- Red, white and blue decora tions were used for the tables and other Fourth of July decora tions were used in the banquet room, where the meeting was held. Hostesses for the after noon were Mrs. Keig, Mrs. H. T. Day, Mrs. Mabel Wright and Mrs. L. E. Juniper. Several inactive members were present for the meeting, and prespective members who attended for the first time were Mrs. F. R. Brannan; Mrs. P. L. Kennedy and Mrs. Odessa Ken nedy. Mrs. R. P. Gascon and Mrs. D. O. Carter became mem bers. Prizes were awarded to Mrs. Lair, Mrs. G. E. Mason, Mrs. E. F. Cronin and Mrs. Coleman. The bridge prizes went to Mrs. H. W. Sturgeon and Mrs. Mason. Mrs. A. G. Motschenbacker and Mrs. Day won pinochle prizes and Mrs. Brennan and Mrs. T. E. Rushing won at canasta. Installation of officers will be held July 12. Family Leaves . Lt. Wallace Ludwig, Mrs. Lud wig and the couple's daughters, Sherrie and Sandra, left for their home in Berkeley, Calif., today after spending a week here with relatives. The family visited Mrs. Ludwig's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lawrence, 1422 Euclid avenue, and the lieutenant's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ludwig, 511 Austin street. . Mrs. Lawrence accompanied the Ludwigs home, and will spend a week with them. Lt. Ludwig is stationed at Treasure island with the Navy. ' 4 Navy Man, Family Arrive From Hawaii Mr. and Mrs. James Brinson with their son, Jimmie, and in fant daughter arrived from Honolulu Thursday by plane to visit Mrs. Brinson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W, H. Catey, 55 North Orange street, and Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Potter, Portland. Mrs. Brinson has been living in Honolulu while her husband has been serving in Korea as an electronics technician with the Navy. After the end of his leave, Mr. Brinson will report in San Diego. Activians Spend Work Week End at Camp Site Members of the Medford Ac tive club went ta Lake O' Woods Sunday where they helped pre pare Low Echo, the Girl Scout Camp, for its opening July 6 The Activians- unpacked the camp's stored equipment, set up the large tents and got the boats ready for use. This is an annual project of the club. They also dismantle and store the camp's equipment at the end of the camping season. if Miss Alice Howard At Training Center For Methodist Youth Miss Alice Howard, 1030 North Central avenue,. Medford, is attending the Methodist Youth Caravan Training center in Stockton, Calif., preparing for voluntary service in Methodist churches during the next six weeks, a release from Stockton states. Miss Howard is a daugh ter of Mrs. Jennie Lawless. Experienced in the leadership of Christian activities among fel low youth, Miss Howard is one of 216 college young people and 54 adult counselors who will work as members of caravan teams this summer, the release states. Caravaners will serve a total of 324 .churches in the United States and -Cuba this season. Composed of four young peo ple and one adult counselor, each qaravan team is especially trained to give leadership and direction to the development of a youth program, fulfilling the ideals and purposes of the Meth odist Youth Fellowship inteach local church. Caravaners assist local youth in planning pro grams of evangelism, world friendship, and community serv ice. Games were played, after which a decorated box filled with gifts was placed before the bride-to-be for unwrapping. Re freshments were served by the hostes. Planned Thursday By Wornen Golfers An old-fashioned Fourth of July picnic is planned by Wom en's Golf association of Rogue Valley. Country club Thursday, July 3. The event, the usual monthly luncheon and business meeting, will be held at the home of Mayor and Mrs. Dia mond Flynn, 6 Eastover terrace near the golf course, with lunch eon to be served at 12:30 pjn. A number of new members have planned the picnic, and will serve the luncheon. Decora tions will be in the Gay Nineties theme, and it is stated that there will be appropriate music and a band concert. The menu will be in the "back to the good old days theme" with nothing priced more than a dime. Posters in the clubhouse locker room give the menu and additional infor mation, the . committee states. Luncheon will follow the reg ular scheduled play for the day, and association members who are hot able to play are welcome to . attend the luncheon, it is stated. "Choose Ye This Day," presenting the objectives cf the Woman's Society of Chris tian Service of th Methodist church, was given at the first meeting of the new year, last Tuesday. Mrs. James Walker, assisted by Mrs. H. D. Beatty and Mrs. Edward Anderson presented de votional meditations. Mrs. Lyle Schoppert sang, accompanied by Mrs. Horace Doolen. Speakers on the main theme were Mrs. F. S. Brandon, who spoke on "Healing the Sick"; Mrs. Ben Schmidt, '"Ways of Providing Christian Home s"; Mrs. Robert Taylor, "Training Christian Leaders"; and Mrs. Walter Garner, "Building Chris tian Homes." ' Chosen as one of the four dele gates from the southern district to the Summer School of Mis sions to be held at Camp Ma gruder, "Barview, Ore., July 13 to 18, was Miss Renae Seger, Medford.
