For Tuesday GOP Meeting
Chicago (U.R) Photo
graphers, movie cameramen
and radio reporters Saturday
fought for permission to attend
a crucial meeting of the Repub
lican National Committee to
choose between contested dele
gations to the GOP convention.
The national committee will
make an original decision on the
contested state delegations, but
the convention as a whole, which
convenes July 7, will be the
final court of appeal.
Some Assured Place
Newspaper and press associa
tion reporters already were as
sured that the meeting next
Tuesday will be open to them.
But it still had not been de
termined whether cameramen
and radio reporters using re
cording devices would be per
mited to work while the meet
ing is in progress.
"The committee is anxious to
avoid the confusion of exploding
flash bulbs and the circus atmos
phere of movie lights and micro
phones," a spokesman said.
Only Reporters
"Right now it looks as though
only reporters will be permitted
to hear the proceedings."
Several news picture and mo
vie news organizations protest
ed to National Republican Chair
man Guy Gabrielson, demand
ing that the meeting be thrown
open to them.
