C. Smith and Sons lumber camp on Upper Wolf creek, ac cording to L. R. Child, Grants Pass, secretary-treasurer of the Lumber Conservation Mills, in corporated,, owner of the ma chine. The machine takes slabs and edger trims as they 'are dis charged from the regular mill ing equipment. It recovers in one operation all sizes of lum ber possible from 1 inch square to 2 inches by 8 inches, Child explained, with random lengths. Machine Portable The machine is portable, he said, and is 4V feet high by 13 feet long, and is mounted on skids. It is called the Molitor machine after its inventor K. A. Molitor, Grants Pass. A. D. Bounds, Ashland, is president and manager of the corporation, and completes the three-member corporation, which includes Molitor and Child. The machine manufactured by the Pacific Machinery company, 1910 Table Rock road, owned by L. E. Juniper. Child said the cor poration was "extremely pleas ed" with the work done by Juni per in making the machine from the original blueprint. Two Operators It takes two men to run the machine, Child pointed out, with the total amount of recov ery varying. He said an average sawmill operator could salvage an estimated . $3,000 worth of lumber in a three-month period. However, an accurate account of its recovery will have to wait until it has been in use, Child added. The secretary said that the machine was two years being de veloped, and that this is the first time a unit has been invented to do all the work in one operation. The company has patents pend- j ing in both Canada and the i United States. The machine is not for sale, Child said, but will be leased out with licensed operators to run it. All the financing is being done by the corporation with the sawmills given a percentage of the recovery.
