Medford downed the Beavers 6 to 3 Saturday in the first tussle of a two-game stand. Victories over the week-end gave the Studs a .500 mark in the league percentage column four wins and four losses. Coos Bay-North Bend shared the league leadership with Drain and Roseburg after week-end games. Each now has four wins and two losses. . Com Bar Wins The Coos Bay nine beat Drain 8 to 1 Saturday and 10 to 2 Sun day, beating Pitcher Roy Helser Saturday and chasing Hurler Jerry Cade out Sunday. Coquille rapped Bandon 8 to 5 and 16 to 10. Bandon Suncrea ironv pitching . lack with Ad Liska shelved by an auto injury and Bill Hanauska collapsing from a pinched nerve after facing three batters on sunday. Medford sewed up the Sunday contest with two big innings. It capitalized mainly on Beaver errors and Tosser Chuck Tyke- son's wildness for five runs in the .first frame and four in the second. ' The Studs got their first canto score on a base on balls, bits by Alex McDonald, Frank Roelandt and Norm Luclch, three errors and a fielder's option. Two hit batters, two errors, a base on balls and two flyouls accounted for second inning markers. Runt Cross Another Medford run crossed in the fifth on Moose Blevins bingle' and two errors. In the sixth Snuffy Smith, Clarence Mellbye and Lucich hit for the Studs and a walk and a wild pitch figured as two more runs came in. The final Medford runs were scored in the eighth on a double by Roelandt, singles by Jack Gordon and Mellbye and a groundout by Smith. Brookings scored once in the fourth on hits by Frank Bur dell, Bill Darnell and Bill Wal lace, again in the sixth on Bur- dell's single and Wally Maciel s triple and once more in the eighth on Burdell's home run over the right field fence. Medford Pitcher Wooton gave up eight hits during the after noon, walked three batters and fanned eight He handled four fielding chances for assists. Stud batters got to Hurler Chuck Tykeson, Oregon Tech youth playing for Brookings, for eight hits and they got three bingles off the offerings of Reliever Maciel. Cartwright Goes The Studs played Sunday without the services of Out fielder and Inficldcr Marv Cart wright who reportedly accepted a more lucrative offer from Dunsmuir, Cal. Neither Boody Gilbertson nor Pete Bianchi from up Seattle way were here over the week-end to play for the Studs. There were reported conflicts in their schedules. H is understood that they are to alter nate in playing with the Studs, only one joining the team each week. Butte Falls upset Glendale 13 to 7. Lloyd Hart was winning pitcher. Pitcher Carl Hueners came through with a sparkling six-hit performance for Central Point. He fanned 13 batters and walked none while the Millers collected 11 hits and utilized four errors. Burns Homers , There was no scoring in the RVCC Linksmen Third in Meet George Harrington, Medford, was medalist and the Rogue Val ley Country club quartet of which he was a member placed sixth in the Alderwood invita tional golf tournament Saturday and Sunday at Portland. Harrington paced the field with a 145 for the two days to get a trophy and a golf cart. The Medford team score was 629. On the Rogue Valley crew in. addi tion to Harrington were Justin Smith Jr., Bill McAllister Jr., and Phil Getchell. The two-day totals of the three were not re ported this morning. Oswego topped the 15 team field with 612. Other leading quartets were Columbla-Edge-water 614. Royal Oaks 619, Ald erwood 621 and Longview 626. At Klamath Falls Sunday Rogue Valley golfers lost a team, match to Reames Golf club 16,i to 13V4. Ten-man teams partici pated. June 18, the Studs face Duns muir and on Friday, June 20, they oppose Weed.. The games will be at the fairgrounds here. Both teams are members of the Northern California league. Prospect tallied its two runs in that inning. Burns socked three hits in six times up and drove in seven runs. Bob Fasel also hit three for six for the Millers. Ashland had the possible tying and winning runs on base in the ninth in its tussle but a groundout retired the side. Manager Ben Fagene has called an important meeting of ethe Miller club for 7 p. m. Girls' Loop Slate Set In Softball Medford Softball association will have a girls' league as well as a men's loop this summer. It was announced during the week end that the association will administer what was to have been the Rogue Valley Girls league. Girls games will be played along with the men's. For the most part, the girls will fill the spots left open in the men's slate by the withdrawal of Timber Products from the association. There will be four girls teams. the Medford Crater Babes, Ea gle Point, Central Point and Butte Falls. Plans to have a sec ond Medford team fell through, it was said. Double Round-Robin The girls will vie in a double round-robin. Whenever girls' and men's frays are scheduled on the same night, the1 girls' tiff will be the preliminary. Men start their schedule on Friday, June 13. Women's play begins on Tuesday, June 17. The games are at the Medford senior high football field. Association officials have expressed the opinion that the 1952 arrange ment should create a more in teresting Softball program here.
