May 0. 1952 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE FIVE Dividend Disposal Described by VA Veterans who do not request their 1952 national service life Insurance dividend in cash before It Is due will be notified by the Veterans Administration of the dividend amount placed on de posit to their credit, it was an nounced today by the VA. According to the VA, such dividend notices will be mailed after the 1952 anniversary dates of the policies, when the 1B52 dividend is payable. First no tices are scheduled to be mailed soon, the VA said. The notice will advise the pol icyholder that if the dividend credit is not applied in payment of premiums becoming due, and not otherwise paid, it will earn interest. The VA has begun to mail 1952 dividend checks to policy holders who have made requests in writing for cash payments. Approximately 5,000.000 policy holders are eligible for their part of the ?z,000,0U0 dividend. Policy holders who pay prem iums to VA district offices and who request their 1952 dividend in cash, will receive checks from those offices. Policyholders in military service who are paying premiums by allotment from their military pay and who re quest their 1952 dividend in cash, will receive their checks from the VA's central office in Washington, D. C. Policyholders who desire divi dends paid in cash, and have not yet so requested, should write the VA office to which they are paying premiums, giving their full name, Insurance policy num ber and the address to which they wish the dividend payment sent. Most Pacific northwest vet erans pay insurance premiums to the VA district office located at Fort Snelling, Minn. Dunsmuir Railroad Days Set June 13-15 Dunsmuir, Calif. The seventh annual Railroad Days celebra tion, sponsored by the Dunsmuir chamber of commerce, is sched uled this year for June 13 through 15, according to cham ber officials. Included on the program are free folk and square dancing, performances by the 175-piece Weldonian band, the Ben All Oriental Shrine band and other musical organizations and a car nival. A parade has been sched uled for Sunday noon. Wl-TffllWiK COMMENCEMENT SETTING The 26th annual commence ment exercises of Southern Oregon college will be held at the Butler Memorial band shell (above) Sunday afternoon. The public is cordially invited to attend the 3 o'clock ceremony in Lithia park at Ashland. 13th Brookings Azalea Festival Opens May 31 Brookings The 13th annual Brookings and Harbor azalea festival will open at 10:30 Sat urday morning, sponsors of the event announced today. The op ening events will include a band concert and coronation of the festival queen in Azalea state park, to be followed by a fam ily picnic. The annual Azalea Garden club flower show and art exhibit will be open to the public start ing at 1:30 p.m. in the Brookings high school gymnasium. The queens banquet will be held in the Chetco Inn at 7 p.m. and the queen's ball will be held simul taneously in the Chetco Grange hall and the Brookings IOOF hall. The Sunday program includes outdoor interdenominational church services in Azalea park starting at 10 a.m. and a free barbecue at noon. The flower show and art exhibit will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. and a base ball game has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. To Fife TV Application Portland (U.R Harry H. Buckendahl, vice president and general manager of radio sta tion KOIN, has announced that the station shortly would file application with the Fed eral Communications Commis sion for Portland television channel No. 6. ' SOC Faculty Members Graduation Speakers Ashland Southern Oregon college staff members wound up a busy week of speaking at sev eral high school commence ments. On Tuesday, Dr. John D. E. McAulay, associate professor of education, was speaker at Phoe nix high school graduation exer cises. On Wednesday, Dr. Elmo N. Stevenson, college president, spoke at Newport; Dr. Roy W. McNeal, professor of geography, at Talent, and Leon C. Mulling, associate professor of speech, at Bonanza. Last evening, Dr. Stevenson appeared at Albany; Dr. Donald A. MacDougall, associate profes sor of social science, at Jackson ville, and Dr. McAulay at Ash land junior high school. Dr. Arthur Kreisman, associ ate professor of English, will also be speaker at the Saturday evening meeting of the Ashland High School Alumni association.
