Blind Man's Dog Portland (U.R) World's meanest thief: Holmes Hansen, 23, told po lice Thursday he turned Duke, his Doberman Pinscher, out Wednesday morning for exercise and then shortly afterward heard someone whistling at the dog. WILSON Washington (U.R) The big 1952 political show In Chicago will begin several days before the Republican National Con vention meets on July 7. The first act will take place before the Republican National committee during the preceding week. The committee than will be judging the claims of con testing delegates. Texans Can't Agree Texas Republicans this week could not agree on a slate of delegates. Two slates were chos en, one by supporters of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower and the other by supporters of Sen. Rob ert A. Taft. Democrats also split and chose two delegate slates, one friendly to the Truman ad ministration, the other hostile. Procedures of the two nation al conventions in judging these contesting claims and those from other states will be similar. There may be as many as 100 contested Republican delegate seats. To Hear Rival Delegates The national committee will hear rival delegates and decide to accept the claims of one or the other faction before the conven tion meets. The accepted dele gates will be listed on the con vention's temporary roll call. Re jected delegates, however, may appeal to the convention creden tials committee. This committee hears the con testants all over again, but not in time for a decision to be made before the convention is under way with the successful faction temporarily seated. The credentials committee report usually comes in on the second day of the convention. It may uphold or reject the judgment of the national committee. May Make Appeal A rejected delegation then may appeal to the convention it self where the issue is decided for keeps by majority vote. There are some political gim micks involved in all of this, however. The convention chairman may rule that a defegation which has been contested but which has won a place on the temporary roll call must be barred from voting on contest questions when they -come to the convention floor. Or, he may rule that the delegation may vote on contests from other states but not on its own right to be seated. The chairman also may rule, how ever, that all hands may vote, even on their own right to be present and voting. Could Give Protection The candidate whose support ers control the national commit tee has a long start toward get ting his contested delegates seated. A friendly credentials committee and friendly chair man could protect a favorite candidate against almost any as sault from that direction regard less of the merits of rival claims. 1933 WILLYS pickup $40.
