But impressario Paul Greg ory, who launched Charles Laughton's "reading" and the famed "drama quartet," though Power had a great reading Voice. So Gregory signed the actor to r e a d the classic, "John Brown's Body," in the auditor iums, armories, arenas and con cert halls in 74 cities next fall. "I hope audiences will be sur prised," says Power. "It's a lit tle different view of me for them. It's a great challenge." Masscy Plays Lincoln Raymond Massey will play Abraham Lincoln in the famous story. Two choruses, one speak ing and one singing, will help in the reading with Power serving as narrator and conductor. By ALINI MOSBT Uaittd Prtu Corratpondtiit Theater starved citizens of small towns are as excited about "John Brown's Body" as they were when the drama quartet Laughton, Agnes Moorehead, Sir Cedrick Hardwicke and Charles Boyer read George Bernard Shaw on tour. "Power's first engagement is not until Nov. 1, but already the towns are writing for pictures of the chorus," says Gregory. Other Stars Want Jobs The impressario picked Power "because I saw him do a good job with a long speech in a mo vie once." Other stars have ask ed Gregory to hire them since he originated Laughton's succes sful reading tour. The drama quartet alone has grossed more than five million dollars, and begins its fifth tour next fall. "Shelley Winters wants to read something for me," says Gregory who at 31 has reaped a fortune from the tours. "Picture fttars nro 1nteit'1 because they make almost as mucn money doing this as they do from movies. And the tour is guaranteed, unlike a gamble on a Broadway play. We just don't know en ough to keep our calcium intake up to normal level. As a recognized authorltv ex- pressed It: "The ordinary mixed diet of Americans and Eurnnpanc. at least among dwellers in cities and towns, is probably more of ten deficient in ralrinm than in any other chemical element." tmemistry ot Food and Nutri tion, by Sherman) , There is more calcium In tho body of a healthy person than any other mineral element, about 3 Dounds In a young adult, less in an elderly or ieeDie person, still less if the elderly person has hardened ar teries or cnronlc rheumatiz. Contrary to a 19th century be lief of doctors and laymen the bones of elderlv nprsnne rantoin considerably less calcium than tne Dones ot young adults. There is a steady loss of calcium through the veara. and thp cat. cium stores in the bones are drawn upon to maintain as near ly as Possible the calcium tol in the blood, that is, to keep the Diooa caicium level where it must be to maintain various im portant functions at normal. The physiological functions of cal cium will be described in a piece to follow. It is my opinion and, remem ber, I'm no authority on any thing), that this steady drain on the calcium itnrpn in tha occurs in the great majority of Americans. The normal level of calcium in the blood is between B and 11.5 milligrams per 100 cc. roughly less than a grain in a pint and only about half of it (diffusible) is in a state which can be used in the various phys iological functions. Clinical or laboratory meas urement of the blood calcium level has not yet been developed sufficiently to differentiate this physiologically active or signifi cant diffusible calcium from the non-diffusible form In the blood, and so chemical measure ment of the blood calcium level is of little value in diagnosis.
