in the "Big Sticky" area north
east of Medford, in ever increas
ing numbers the past few years,
was announced this week. The
mice each recent year have
girdled and killed more and
more trees ,and commonly used
rodent control measures had lit
tle or no effect, according to
the Vilas.
Recently Ed Geary, operator
of one of a bent grass ranch in
Klamath county, visited the Vi
las orchards and suggested the

had killed "every mouse on the
ranch," something he had been
unable to do with the use of
other rodent eradicate.
Results Good
Vilas said the results on his
place were good.
Earl Jossy, county extensibn
agent, said today that tests made
with the new compound on a
small scale were inconclusive,
but that from all indications,
where it has been used in large

Seven acres . of government
land along the county highway
near Eagle Point with seven
new graves, marking the begin
ning of the new Camp White
cemetery, will be dedicated in
the exercises observing Memor
ial day. De Vere Taylor, of Med
ford senior high school, will de
liver the address, and Manager
Paul A. Hatton will respond in
the official dedication. He will
lay the first memorial wreath
at the base of the flag pole.
The Eagle Point high school
band has been selected to pro
vide appropiate music. Father
John Cummisky will deliver
the invocation and Chaplain An
derson will pronounce the bene
diction. Representatives of the
VAVS organizations will march
in the exercises, which are being
arranged by Franklin Girard, as
master of ceremonies. .
In addition to' the Memorial
day exercise at the cemetery at
t p. m. (standard time) there
wiU be a "roll call of the dead"
ceremony in the theater at 8:30
a. m. for the purpose of honor
ing departed comrades. Manag
er Hatton has urged attendance
upon the membership as an ex
pression of respect for those who
have passed away during the
year. -
Eve Prentice and her willing
troup of girl accordionists have
become popular with the mem
bers of the VFW, DAV and
WWI,' arid she is always avail
able to furnish entertainment at
post functions. This past week
members of all three organiza
tions were on hand for her con
certs on two successive evenings.
Dr. William E. White , spent "a
few days at Gold Beach, at the
mouth of the Rogue River, cat
ching fish, and Mrs. White was
along to see that he didn't catch
cold.
Pharmacist Jack Love is much
pleased with a new arrangement
in the drug room, now moved to
larger quarters with the stock
room adjoining. He has been
aided considerably by appoint
ment of Raymond McGowan as
an associate.
Grace Stuhr, Chief Nurse, will
go to Minot,' N. D., this week
for a couple weeks leave where
she can be with her father, who
is failing in health.
Mrs. Edna B. Girard, dietit
ian, has just returned from a
two weeks seminar in Los Ang
eles of the Institute of Dietitians,
sponsored by the VA. Eight
teen cheif dietitians from eight
states were in attendance. The
present food regimen will show
little if any change, she says,
the classes having been largely
refresher."
Some of the men are finding
it difficult to adjust themselves
to the new physical medicine
being applied. Sergeant Smith,
handling the details, reports one
member rebelled on the ground
that he knew a wheel chair
handicapped man who wasn't
doing anything and they were
both taking the same kind of
pills
Leonard Haggerty, who has
recognized ability as a foreman,
is also running into snags and
threatens to cease being easy-going.
He has always been able
to keep the men interested. On
the landscaping of some time
ago, he gave six of the men an
assignment and they worked so
fast they were out of sight along
the roadway at quiting time and
had to be rounded up.
