G Women's Club Urges Grass Roofs Reform Movement Mlnneapoll (U.R) Dele gates met In closing aesslons at the national convention of the General Federation of Women's clubs Saturday after their new president urged a grass roots reform movement guided by the nation's women. Assistance Asktd Mrs. Oscar A. Ahlgren urged the 800,000 clubwomen In the United States to Join her in a campaign to wipe out " Com munism, Socialism, government waste, corruption and lethargy." She called on the clubwomen to follow her in a "rousing cam paign of Americanism." In her address Friday night, Mrs. Ahlgren, who was elected president earlier this week, ask ed: Housaclaaning Planned "What do we do every spring? We clean house, of course. I in vite you to join me for the next two years in a campaign of na tional housecleaning." The Whiting, Ind., woman said there was a need to "return to basic values, the old virtues of hard work, integrity in the Indi vidual and in government and faith in God." Students at SOC Slate Review of Activities Ashland The annual year- end review of college activities by students and faculty at South em Oregon college will be held next week-end at Dead Indian Soda Springs resort, It was re ported today by Dean S. Nichols. Mcdford, president of the stu dent body. Approximately 50 student leaders and faculty advisors to major undergraduate activities will open the three-day confer ence Friday evening. Achieve ments of the current year will be reported and plans for ex panded activity next year will be made. It is the third such award the store has won in the past two years. Awards in the contest have been trips for store representa tives to various points, including Erie, Pa., and New York City. This award will entitle a man from the store and his wife to spend an all-expense-paid week's vacation at Sun Valley, Ida. Finch said that Sam Richard son, a salesman, and Mrs. Richardson were to have left last night for the resort. Robber Apologizes, Will Return Loot 'New York (U.R) A young robber broke into Mrs. Fannie Belleson's apartment, knocked her to the floor, stole her hus band's shirts and socks, drank a glass of water and left. He later telephoned Mrs. Bel leson and said: "I'm sorry, I hope I didn't hurt you. I'll mail the things back." L. C. Taylor Buys Investment Firm L. C. "Les" Taylor yesterday announced the purchase of the majority of slock in the Medford Investment company, 27 North Holly street. The business was owned by the late Max Peirce. Mrs. Peirce will retain an inter est In the business, Taylor said. The same policies and service will be maintained, he added, and there will be no change in personnel. Mrs. Wanda Willford, who has been with the firm for six years, will continue in charge of the office. Taylor, a resident of the vicin ity since 1931, lives on the Paci fic highway south of Phoenix. He was in the automobile agency business in Mcdford until No vember, 1BS0, and is active in civic and fraternal affairs. Coeds Takes Steps To Avoid Dormitory Raid Bloomlngton, Ind. Soderlund' polled 130 and Wood 115, while! Herbert G. Wing, Medford, re-1 ceived 51, Mary Ellen Yost, Tule-1 lake, 41, and Norman E. Dubbs, j Grants Pass, 11. i Keith F. Johnson, Coquille, j won the first vice president's I seat with 179 votes, defeating i Dale M. Smith, Grants Pass, ! who tallied 163. Robert A. Gou ley, North Bend, won a decisive victory in the second vice-presidential race with 204 votes as Max A. Larson, Lakeview, poll ed 76 and Morris Jiminez, Klam ath Falls, 60. A revote is also scheduled in the race for secretary between Peggy A. McCurley, Jackson ville, who totalled 132 and Carol L. Wikstrom, Medford, with 118. Gloria J. Robinette, San Jose, was eliminated after totalling 83. Another vote is scheduled In the treasurer's contest between Ronald S. Tiegs, Talent, who polled 166 and Norma Rae John, Roseburg, with 105. James H. Jordan, Grants Pass, tallied 71. Dareld J. Verlcy, Tulelake, won a three-way race for yell leader with 188 votes, James S. Cyphert and Phyllis J. Sabin, both Springfield, poled 78 and 76, respectively. FOR BIGGER RED LIGHTS , Newton, Mass. (U.R) Po lice Sgt. William H. Dowling is weary of hearing motorists say they didn't see the red light.
