EIGHT MEDFORD (OREGON) 'Mi V -vy m "Wingt over Jordan," world-ranowned Negro choir will ling Monday. May 19, at 8 p.m. in Firit Methodiit church, Medford. The choir is on a good will tour of the country to foster friendlier relations between races, and the concert is open to the public with out charge. Sorority Presents Gift to Farm Home An executive board meeting of Alpha Rho chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority was held t the home of Mrs. Treavell Turpin, 1604 West Main street, Tuesday evening, May 13. The following chairmen were appointed for the coming year: Mrs. Dennis Carter, publicity; Mrs. John Lamberty, social; Mrs, Richard Mundy, ways and means; Mrs. Russell Budreau, service; and Mrs. Ed Bunnell, program. A lawn swing was presented to the Jackson County Farm Home by the sorority as its pro ject for the year. , Plans were made for a scav enger hunt to be held Friday, May 23, at 8 p. m. at the home of Mrs. Lamberty, 732 West Fourth street. Y., supreme gila monster of the supreme swamp, Military Order of the Lizard, will make her official visit to Cebu swamp of Medford and Grants Pass Friday, May 23. Ce bu swamp will honor Mrs. Stieg er at a special meeting to be held at the Josephine county library, Grants Pass. The meeting will be preceded by a cover-dish dinner at 6:30 p.m. Members are requested to call Mrs. Harry Barneburg, Med ford 2-6368, to make arrange ments for the dinner. Wallin was elect ed president of Medford Garden club for the forthcoming year at a recent meeting of the group at Girls Community club. Other officers elected Include Mrs. Jack Crump, first vice pres ident; Mrs. John J. Brugman, second vice president Mrs. Charles C. Stearns, recording secretary; Mrs. L. P. Rentchler, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Earl Bradfish, treasurer and Mrs. LeRoy F. Cline, historian. The new officers will be in stalled June 26. Mrs. Wallin and Mrs. Brugman were chosen as delegates to the state conven tion of the Oregon Federation of Garden clubs. Mrs. Crump and Mrs. Bradlish will serve as al ternates. Mrs. R. T. Nichol was the main speaker at the meeting. She chose "iris the Year 'Round" as her topic. Mrs. Lawrence Luy, past president of the Jackson ville Garden club, gave the horticulture lesson, "Lilacs, Glories of the Garden in the Spring." During the bird les son, Mrs. J. W. Ostrander chose the white crowned sparrow as the bird of the month. Guests for the afternoon in cluded Mrs. Martha Rodgers and Mrs, Rena Howe, Trail; Mrs. Robyn Adair, Mrs. Dale Saw yer and Mrs. Adeline Carl, Shady Cove and Mrs. Marie Pfnister, Medford. Door prizes were awarded to Mrs. A. C. Leighton and Mrs. W. H. Dyer. Kirkland West will leave by plane tomorrow for a trip to New York City where they will attend a general assem bly of the Presbyterian church. The dinner will be held at noon Sunday, May 25, in Fellow ship hall at the church. On the program for the din ner will be Pastor Kenneth Kor by, Herbert Drews, Edward Rupp, Robert Gemalich, Mrs. Korby and Mrs. Rex Danner. Elects New Officers Adult Bible class of First Christian church elected officers during a meeting May 14 in Fel lowship hall. Mrs. Elmer Cott was reelected president; Mrs. Carl Pearson is the new vice president; George Sweeney, sec ond vice-president; Mrs. Maggie Bodenhauer, secretary, and Al len Curry, treasurer. Buddy Poppy Sales Portland The 31st annual sale of Buddy poppies in Ore gon will be conducted 'by the Veterans of Foreign Wars May 23 and 24, it was announced Saturday by Mrs. Lyman R. Henderson, Department of Ore gon poppy chairman. The poppies to be sold in Ore gon this year include some 50, 000 made by veterans at the Camp White domiciliary center near Medford, Mrs. Henderson said. Approximately 20,000,000 poppies made by veterans in hospital? and soldiers' homes will be sold nationally. Most of the money collected from poppy sales helps finance relief and welfare work for vet erans and their dependents with in the communities in which poppies are sold, according to Mrs. Henderson. The balance of the proceeds is used to help maintain the nationwide reha bilitation service conducted by the VFW. - , Mrs. Don Newbury, 7 East wood drive, will be hostess to Contemporary Book club mem bers Wednesday at 12 noon.
