Coming Events Planned For Red Cross Council At Walter Leverettes All Junior and Senior High school students of the Jackson County Junior Red Cross Coun- cil of High Schools are invited to attend a party Saturday, May 24 at 6:30 pjn. at the Leverette residence, South Pacific high way. All those attending are to take enough hamburger for their own picnic dinner, to be cooked on the outdoor barbecue grill. The remainder of the dinner will be furnished by the hostess. There will be games and square dancing during the ever ning. The girls are Invited, if they care to sleep outdoors, to take a blanket roll or sleeping bag. Clerks' Auxiliary Elects Delegates A meeting of the auxiliary to the National Federation of Post Office Clerks was held in the home- of Mrs. Lee Hubler, 642 South Holly street Thursday. Mrs. Hubler and Mrs. Budd Gall were elected delegates to the state convention, to be held in Portland June 27, 28,and 29. Thompson was Installed pres dent of Central Point Parent Teacher, association at the final meeting last Thursday. Assisting Mrs. Thompson will be Mr. and Mrs. Richard Watson, first vice president, Mrs. Morris Frlnk, second vice-president; Mrs. L. Alldridge, secretary and Mrs Victor Van Hoy, treasurer. They were installed by Mrs. Frank Van Dyke, past president of Jackson County Council of Parents and Teachers. Retiring officers are Mrs. C. B. Cordy, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Harold Gebhard, Mrs. Floyd Lef ler and Mrs. Frink. Corsages were presented to retiring and new officers. Preceding the business meet ing, Junior High Girls Glee club sang, accompanied by Virginia Cellura, and Jane and Jerry Aurdal gave an Hawaiian dance in costume. A tap dance was giv en by Anita and Jean David, Carol Frey and Deanna Water man with Mrs. C. A. Meyer at the piano. Pupils of Mrs. Marie Dizney's fifth grade health class present ed two readings by Allen Barnes, Douglas Davis, Kerman Bennett and Forest Cook. Invocation was given by Mrs. Dale Burns. Mrs. Cordy report ed on the recent convention of the Oregon Congress of Parents and Teachers in Pendleton; the theme "The Needs of the Citi zen Child Our Unfinished Business" was emphasized In the address by Mrs. John E. Hayes, national PTA president, she said. , Announcements included Jun ior High Band concert and tum bling exhibitions on May 16, and pre-registration of first graders June 4 and 5. Mrs. Lewis Kll bourn, summer -roundup chair man, announced the roundup of first graders to be held on May 26 and 27, with Dr. A. E. Merkel as examining physician. Ap pointments are to be made for the round-up by calling either Mrs. Kilbourn, 823x or Mrs. Bruce Stuart, 3-1139. Letters- will go out this week to parents with a medical form. . Miss Audrey Woodridge, of f ice secretary, was presented a gift for her help during the year Mr. Meyer, in behalf of the teachers, presented a corsage to Mrs. Cordy and to Mrs. Dixncy who is retiring as fifth grade teacher. Mrs. Cordy was present ed a past-president's pin by Mrs. Thompson in behalf of the association. It was announced that Mrs. Kathryn Stancliffe on the fac ulty of Central Point Junior High school will be official dele gate to the National Education Association in Detroit this sum mer, as representative of teach ers in four Southern Oregon counties. Refreshments were served from a table centered with a May Pole cake. Pouring were Mrs. Paul Hopkins and Mrs. Clinton D. Kendall. Other moth ers of first and second grade stu dents, assisting with the serving were Mrs. Franklin Gebhard. Mrs. Maynard McKay, Mrs. Leo Ghclardi, Mrs. Victor Van Hoy. Mrs. James McDowell and Mrs. C. W. Anhorn. PTA Unit To Discuss Summer Play in City During Meeting Friday Opportunities for summer play In Medford will be the theme of the Washington School Parent Teacher association meeting to be held Friday, May 23 at 2:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. After a short business meeting and installation of officers, the Mothersingers will make their farewell appearance of the sea son. Mrs. Milo Kubalck will talk on "Aspects of Summer Play." Details of all summer programc offered for the children of Jack son county will be given by Mrs. Marjorle Hopkins. The school's participation In summer activities will be ex plained by Roy Gilbertson. Those attending are asked to take paper and pencil to make notes for their own use. Refreshments will be served at the end of the meeting. Flower Shows This Week Four Garden Clubs Plan Four garden clubs of the valley, Jacksonville, Phoenix, Ashland and Grove will hold flower shows this week. Hours will be 1 to 9 p.m. Among seasonal flower exhib its will be displays of named Iris, along with a display of old and -unusual dolls exhibited by members and collectors. The show will be non-competi tive and entries from other groups or individuals are cor dially invited to exhibit. It will be appreciated if entries could be brought to the hall by noon, the committee states. Phoenix Garden club will hold an iris show and tea Tuesday May 20, at Phoenix Community clubhouse from 1 to 9 p.m. Iris specimens and other ar rangements will be shown ac cording to Mrs. O. V. Poe. chair man. Assisting Mrs. Poe are Mrs. George Hartley, Mrs. H. A Dubuque and Mrs. O. L. Pen- land. "An old-fashioned garden" will De tneme for the Ashland Gar den club's spring show to be held Friday, May 23 in the Ash land Civic clubhouse between 1 and 8 p.m. Mrs. Larkin Grubbs. Ashland Iris specialist, will display new iris varieties from her nursery and there will be other commer cial exhibits. The committee states that pate, and admission Is free. Ex hibitors are to take flowers in their own containers. Tables for flower specimens, flower ar rangements, miniatures and house plants will be available. Members have planned old-fash ioned flower arrangements and antique containers will be on display. . The centennial theme will be emphasized. Mrs. Cora True and Mrs. W. D. Jackson will decor ate the stage with a pioneer scene, and hostesses will wear centennial costumes, Mrs. Paul Landolfe Is tea chairman. Pouring during the afternoon will be Miss Claire Hanley and Mrs. R. T. Nichol, Medford; Mrs. F. Hartley, Mrs, Sam McNair, Miss Grace Lytle, Mrs. G. W. Goldy, Mrs. John Von Kuhlman and Mrs. Earl Magruder. Mrs. Walt Turner will conduct a plant sale. Coming Events Planned By Methodist Women; Dinner Set Wednesday Woman's Society of Christian Service of First Methodist church plans several activities for the near future. Among these will be the Methodist senior din ner, with Mrs. Frank Brown, Grants Pass, as speaker. The din ner has been set for Wednesday, May 21, from 6:30 to 8 o'clock in the church dining hall. Another event planned Is the sub-district meeting of Woman's Society of Christian Service which includes all woman's so cieties from southern Oregon Methodist churches. May 23 has been chosen for this Important all-day meeting and the morning session will be given over to re views of the quadrennial sessions held recently In San Francisco. Goals, as set forth at the ses sions, will be presented by offic ers of the district. A noon luncheon will be serv ed with Circle Four in charge. Officers training school will be held during the afternoon hours, It Is announced. DAV, Auxiliary Attend Sessions In Grants Pass Medford Disabled American Veterans and auxiliary will par ticipate today in a district DAV meeting at Grants Pass, starting at 10 a.m. in the Grants Pass VFW hall. Delegates also will be there from Klamath Falls and Roseburg. During the afternoon the group will visit the veterans domiciliary at Camp White. A no host dinner will be served by the Grants Pass unit at noon. Visitors are expected to be there from Oregon City and Portland. At a meeting Tuesday evening of the auxiliary in the home of Mrs. Ed Neff, 811 Bennett street, officers were nominated. Seven delegates also were elected. They will attend a state convention at La Grande. Mrs. Paul Olsen is the No. 1 delegate and others planning to make the trip In elude Mrs. E. R. Rice, command er; Mrs. Ed Neff, state executive woman; Mrs. George Simmons, state banner carrier; Mrs. Hazel Van Dermark, state treasurer, and Mrs. James Little, district commander. A Junior charter will be pre sented Friday, May 23 and all juniors and their mothers are invited to attend. Officers will be elected and installed by the department commander, Mrs. Laara Bryant, Grants Pass. The Jackson county junior organiza tion is the only one in the state. The auxiliary plans a rum mage sale May 26. Several members are planning to attend installation of officers of the Grants Pass unit May 22. sojourners Medford Sojourners club will meet Thursday, May 22, at 1 p. m. at the Medford hotel. Dessert will be served followed by cards. Farewell Party Honors Harrisons About 25 friends of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Harrison met Wednesday in the John Morris home on Valleyview road near Ashland for a farewell party for the Harrisons. The couple left Friday to live in southern Idaho. They recently sold their ranch where they lived on Fern Valley road. The group presented them a gift and cards were the diversion of the evening.
