was announced today.
This is a half-hour later than
originally planned.

event. It has the earmarks of

Loop President Roy Hargens
has predicted that the South
western Oregon Baseball league,
which opens its schedule Satur
day, will this year experience
its best season. -
After looking over the rosters
of the 6even loop members, Har
gen rated all clubs as contend
ers with no one as a favorite.
It has been pointed out that
the Southwestern Oregon semi
pro circuit will be comparable
to Class B professional ball.
Caliber Illustrated
The Drain Black Sox, who
play the Medford Cheney Studs
here at 8 p.m. Saturday and 2
p.m. Sunday in loop openers. Il
lustrate the caliber of clubs in
the league. A surprise was pulled
this week when the Black Sox
announced their roster. Close fol
lowers of baseball will recognize
a number of familiar names on
the Drain squad.
Roy Helser, Portland Beaver
hurler, is to be playing manager
if he gets his release from the
Beavers. Squads of the Pacific
Coast loop were to have cut their
rosters today. The Beavers have
been over the player limit with
nine or 10 pitchers on the club.
The action on Helser's request
for release was to be known
sometime today.

Houghlman and Hal Tu'rpin;
catchers are Bill Beard, ex-Portland

Hargens has expressed hope
for good attendance at ball
games, stating that fans support
will determine the strength of

Medford Takes 2nd Honors
In Junior AAU Track Meet
Grants Pass rolled up 92'4
tallies here Wednesday to win
the junior AAU track meet.
Medford thinclads finished sec
ond with 84 points.
The other four schools enter
ed wound up far behind. Klam
ath Falls scored 15'4, Ashland,
7Va, Eagle Point 4 and Phoenix
3.
Medford held a 77 to 70U
lead after 12 of the 14 events
were recorded but Grants Pass
took the first three places in
the broad jump and second,
third, fourth and fifth in the
javelin to take the meet. In the
two events Medford got two
men in a three-way tie for fourth
in the broad jump and Chap
man won the javelin for Med
ford.
Ed Setzler was a two-event
winner for Medford, in the shot
put and low hurdles, and he
was second in the 100-yard
dash. Reagon of Grants Pass
won the 100 and 220-yard races.

In Hong Kong Fire
Hong Kong (U.R) A raging
fire in the crowded western sec
tion of Hong Kong Thursday de
stroyed a four-story warehouse

fighting force battled the flames
and several firemen were treated
