7N MedpordItribunj D re Studs Will Oppose Rugged Rival In Drain Black Sox The Medford Chenev Ktnrf. will be up against some stiff competition on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, May 17 and 18, when they open their Southwestern Orppnn Rgh0n league season at the fairgrounds nere against the Drain Black Sox. Drain is a new memhnr nt th league. It's team roster is made up 01 piayers from Eugene and the northern part of the state. Roy Helser. nrpspnf. Pnrtiar.4 Beaver pitcher, is cheduled to manage ana pitch for Drain. At this writing Helser is applying for his release frnm th Pnrtii Beavers so that he may take over me reins of the Drain ball club this coming week-end. Also, Drain has signed Harvey Storey who has just received his release from the San Diego Padres. Other well known ball players with Drain are Bill Beard, Don Kirsh, Pat Walhers, Chuck Bafaro, Wayne Johnson, Norm Richie and Ad Rutchman. Other Games Other league actions for the opening series will find Coquille at Roseburg, and Coos Bay North Bend at Bandon. Brook ings draws a bye. Complete rosters for most of the teams will not be filled un til tne first series in June as many players are still in college. But regardless of this every team has many ex-pros ready for action. On the mound for Bandon will be Ad Liska and catching and managing will be Bill Bur gher, both ex Portland Beavers. Liska can still give all the teams a rough time with his famous underhand pitch. Girls' Golf Classes Set The Woman's Golf association and the Roeue Vallev Countrv club will sponsor a girls' Jun ior golf summer program. The program will include free group lessons and clubs will be loaned if needed. Special play has been planned. The teaching staff will be headed by Ed Old field, high school all-stater in 1951. Invitations have been Issued by letter to all club members' daughters of junior and senior high school. Lessons will be held on Sat urdays, May 17, 24 and 31. Beginning June 9 lessons will be held on Mondays. The Junior high girls will start lessons at 9 a. m., the senior high girls at 10 a. m.
