Miss Phyllis Corliss
Praised by Critics
After Recent Concert
Miss Phyllis Corliss, Medford
voice student attending Maryl
hurst college, received much fa
vorable comment on her singing
in a recent concert sponsored by
the college, it is reported. Miss
Corliss, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. H. H. Corliss, 938 South
Holly street, was one of two
sopranos featured on the pro
gram.
The Portland Oregonian re
port of the concert praised Miss
Corliss for her singing of a
group of French art songs, say
ing they were performed with
"a delicacy of style and almost
flawless diction." An instru
mental ensemble accompanied
Miss Corliss in a Haydn aria.
"On Mighty Pens" from "Crea
tion" and it was in this that the
potentialities of Miss Corliss'
lyric voice 'was best realized,
the critic pointed out.
The program opened with a
duet, "Stabat Mater," Pergolesi,
by Miss Corliss and Miss Jean
Lawson, the second featured so
prano and of this it was said
"the tonal' blend gave Immedi
ate testimony to the seriousness
of the two young singers."
Mrs. Corliss was in Oregon
City for the recital, held at St.
John's auditorium.
