Some will 'receive orchids, others a handful of flowers picked from the roadside; - some will receive expensive gifts, others will be treated to a rest from kitchen duties whiie dad and the youngsters cook breakfast and dinner. . In recent years Mothers' day week-end has been set aside at schools and colleges as a time when mother visits sons and daughters away at school. Southern Ore gon college, Ashland, observes this custom, and several hundred mothers, many from 'Medford, registered at SOC for the events planned for yesterday and today. Taking part in the special week-end festivities were Mrs. Elmo N. Stevenson, wife of the president of Southern" Oregon college, and her daughter, Rosemary, (upper left) o student at SOC. Mrs. Stevenson and her dughter were photographed in the garden of the Stevenson home, 610 Elkader street, with the family dog, Tippy. Another mother-daughter pair participating In the pro gram were Mrs. J. R. Smith and daughter, Sidney, Medford, (shown lower right). Mrs. Smith has served as president of Southern Oregon College Mothers' club the past year and her daughter is enrolled in education at SOC. The two 'were photographed at Susanne Homes hall, where Miss Smith lives during the college months. The Smith's Medford home is at 1033 Reddy i -"nue. This year for the first time both men and women stu dents participated in the program for Mothers' week-end at the college, and worked on committees. Four committee members who helped prepare the pro gram are (center right) Miss Sylvia Keady, (at left) Klamath Falls, general chairman for the special week-end; Miss Gloria Robinette, San Jose, Calif., tea chairman; Miss Mary Ellen Yost, Tulelake, Calif., honors chairman, and Miss Wikstrom, Medford, newly elected secretary of Associated Women students. Among Medford mothers who attended the Mothers' week-end events were members of the newly organized Medford branch of Southern Oregon College Mothers' club, shown lower left. In the group are (left to right) Mrs. Rollin Jones, Mrs. Al Wikstrom, Mrs. C. A. Stothers, Mrs. Edward leach and Mrs. Dale Franklin. Theme of the week-end program was "Accent on Arts" and the program includ ed exhibits, teas, a business session of the mothers' club, a play reading and other events.
