Two-Year-Old Dies After Exposure in Dakota Lowlands Alexandria. S. D. (U.R) A two-year-old boy, rescued after spending 67 hours In the swampy lowlands southwest of here, died of pneumonia, exposure and sunburn Tuesday. Little Joseph Wipf had been found nearly . exhausted In a plowed field a mile from the spot where he vanished from a group of playmates. The youngster was found Mon day lying curled up in the center of a plowed field near Alexan dria, S. D., more than a mile from the spot where he became sepa rated from a group of playmates Friday. Rushed To Hospital Hanson County Sheriff Dewey Heineman said Joseph was "al most dead" from exhaustion. The boy could not have lasted much longer, Heineman said. Joseph was rushed to Mitchell Hospital where he was placed in an oxygen tent for a time. Later he was removed and fed water and broth to restore his strength. Planes Aid Search More than 150 volunteers and four airplanes took part in an extensive air-ground search for the youngster. It was feared that he had fal len into the swollen James river near where he had been playing when he disappeared. The boy was 'found by Dave Waldner. Joseph was too weak to move when he was discovered. The boy lives with his parents In a Mennonite colony near Alexandria. WdnsUr, April SO, 1952 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE SEVEN Several Drivers Without Permits Salem (U.R) Traffic checks made at 38 points throughout Oregon showed several motorists were without valid drivers' li censes and nearly 200 had ve hicles not properly registered, according to state police. A total of 18,841 vehicles passed through the check points. Of these 161 were not properly registered. And 525 operators were without valid drivers' li censes. Required equipment was lack ing or defective in 623 instances and 251 other violations of the Oregon motor vehicle code or the motor transportation act were noted. All in all, 473 offenders were cited to court and 1.087 others were handed a written warning. Ridgway Selection Meets With Favor Paris (U.R) Appointment of Gen. Matthew B. Ridgway to suc ceed Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower as supreme Allied commander for Europe was hailed through out Western Europe Tuesday.
