Episcopal Minister
Here Named Dean
Of Convocation
The Rev. George R. V. Bol
ster, rector of St. Mark's Epis
copal church in Medford, was
elected dean of the southern con
vocation of the church's diocese
of Oregon, at the closing sessions
of the 64th annual convention of
the diocese held in Portland this
week.
He succeeds the Rev. A. H.
MacDpnnell, Ashland, in the
post, which is largely an admin
istrative one, and is for the area
south of Roseburg. ,
Mr. Bolster also was named
an alternate delegate to the pro
vincial synod, which will be held
in Boise, Ida., May 6 to 8.
The convention voted to rec
ommend the formation of a ninth
province for the church, to in
clude the dioceses of Oregon,
Montana and Olympia, and the
missionary districts of Eastern
Oregon, Spokane, Idaho and
Alaska. Oregon now is in the
eighth province, which includes
much of the western part of the
United States.
In other action, the convention
established a minimum stipend
for missionary priests of $2,500
for single men and $3,000 for
married men, and also voted to
oppose a proposal that retired
bishops would no longer have a
vote in the church's house of
bishops. This, and the recom
mendation on a new province
will be presented to the triennial
convention of the Episcopal
church, to meet In Boston next
September.
