April 24, 1952 Society and Clubs Women of the Moose Hear Talk on Flowers; Candidates Initiated Mrs. Charles Hoppe spoke at the meeting of Women of the Moose held April 16 at the IOOF hall. Mrs. Hoppe, speaker for a chapter night program, talked on arrangements of flowers from the home garden. Mrs. George Rldgley, Mrs. Mrs. Gorden Olsen, Mrs. F. W. Lyons, Mrs. Frank Taylor, Mrs. G. L. Witte and Mrs. Leo Web ster were initiated. A committee met April 18, at the home of Mrs. James Roder ick to nominate officers for the coming year. The first session will open at 12:30 p.m. and the evening ses sion at 7 p.m. Mrs. Paul Hatton, Mrs. Al Gilhousen and Mrs. Fred Rehllng are in charge of the tournament. Nine tables of players par ticipated in the weekly session of the club held Tuesday night. Winners for the north-south play ing position were Mrs. Jean Hall and William Kennedy, first; Paul Hatton and Bob Dickey, second; Roy Pruitt and Mrs. Herbert Seitz, third; Mrs. Frank R. Baker and William Isaacs, fourth. East-west winners were Mrs. Alice Swanson and Mrs. Edna Miller, first; Mrs. Sarah Wood and Dr. S. Ralph Dippel, second Mr .and Mrs. Paul McDuffee, third; Mrs. B. L. Sanderson and Mrs. A. F. Stennett, fourth. Robinson, assistant professor of music. Miss Robinson also announced today that Lone Pine school has requested the opportunity to pre sent "Trepak" by Tschaikowsky as its special part of the musical program. More than 500 element ary pupils are expected to take part in the May 7 program. Sixteen schools have been par ticipating In the weekly "Singing Time" program broadcast every Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. over radio station KWIN, Ashland, Miss Robinson said. Medford Student Rules Chairman For Club Session Miss Noreen Kelly, Medford, will serve as chairman of the rules committee when the Young Democratic club of Oregon holds the annual convention this week end. The meeting is slated for April 25-27 in Portland. Miss Kelly, student at Maryl hurst college, is second vice president of the organization and also is national committeewom an for the young democrats. She Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Kelly, 006 West Fourth, both of whom have been active In the democratic party for many years. Mrs. Kelly is at present chairman of the demo cratic party for Jackson county. Main convention sessions, in cluding election of officers and a public banquet, are set for Saturday, April 26, in the ban quet room of Portland Women's club. Robert Y. Thornton, Tilla mook attorney and democratic candidate for attorney general, will be the principal speaker for the banquet. According to a release from the club, the mnst-often mention ed candidates for the office of state president are Jack Snod gniss, Grants Pass, now first vice-president, and Charles R. Lovli, Mo, Annual Music Festival To Open Friday at School Several hundred high school students will arrive In Medford Friday to participate in the annual southern Oregon music contest festival to be held all-day Friday and Saturday morning, April 25 and 26, at Medford Senior High school. Vocal and instrumental groups from 15 schools in the district will perform for either criticism or a numerical rating. Judges are to be Chet Duncan, former supervisor of music for the. Port land schools; Karl Ernst, the present supervisor and Les Arm strong, music supervisor at Olympia, Wash. A single admission will enable the public to attend any or all of the events, it is stated, plus the specially planned program Friday evening. At that time the 80-voice Medford Junior High school boys' chorus and the Med ford and Klamath Falls Class A division orchestra will perform. The final division on the eve ning's program will feature the Class B bands from Central Point, Lakeview and Ashland. A spring concert will be given Thursday, at 8 p.m. In the Talent high school gymnasium by the combined Talent and Jackson ville bands and choruses under the direction of John M. Eby, music director for both schools. The concert is being held in preparation for the musical fes tival here Friday. The combined choruses will include about 80 mixed voices and the bands will include about 45 pieces. The two groups ap peared in a similiar concert Tuesday night at Jacksonville. Canton and Auxiliary Hold Monthly Meeting; Initiate Mrs. Campbell Siskiyou canton and auxiliary, Patriarchs Militant, held the monthly dinner and meeting last Friday evening at IOOF hall. M. V. Kight, captain of the canton and Mrs. Kight, president of the auxiliary, presided at the meet ings and Mrs. Kight was assisted by their daughter, Miss Dorothy Kight. Miss Kight has been at the Shrine hospital in Portland, she is enrolled in nurse's train ing. During the business meeting Mrs. W. A. Campbell was initi ated into the auxiliary, with members of the canton acting as guards. Mrs. O. S. Walden, chairman for the ham supper which the groups plan on May 3, reported on the event. Mrs. Blanche Robinson, Mrs. George Brownlee and Mrs. John Black make up the May refresh ment committee. Monday evening members of the two groups visited Jackson ville Rebekah lodge, with mem bers of the delegation wearing lodge uniforms. In addition to the band and choral concert there will be numbers by a fourth grade fluto phone band. Install Officers Of Lincoln PTA At Last Meeting Mrs. Dee Newton, past presi dent of Lincoln Parent-Teacher association, conducted installa tion of new officers at the April meeting of the association held recently in the school gymna sium. Officers installed were Mrs. John Benson, president; Mrs. S. J. Fagone, vice-president; Mrs. Paul Gasparotti. secretary; Mrs. Wiliam Lyman, treasurer and Mrs. A. E. Sidener, histor ian. Mrs. Benson presented a past president's pin to Mrs. H. V. Martin, retiring presitent. . The program for the afternoon opened with introduction of stu dent body officers by V. P. Bev is. principal. They are president, Tony Brauner; vice president, Dale Shaw; secretary, Beverly Beach; treasurer, Larry Albright. The basketball player's trophy for the outstanding player of the year was presented to Dale Shaw. ' Miss Laura Hont's fourth grade music pupils presented a musical program accompanied by Mrs. Bernice Vlles and led by Mrs. Hazeldean Hohensee. Attendance prize was won by Miss Hont's fourth grade room.
