After that Mays will return to Idaho and expects to do a lot of fishing in streams of that state this sum mer. Carson .did beautiful work at his bench fashioning trout lures. Simpson, secretary manager of the Southern Ore- gon Conservation and Tree Farm association. .The title of the article is "Timber." Tuesday's fishing trip to Emi' grant Lake wasn't too much of a success. The water there is yet too high and muddy, Howr ever, some good "cats" were taken and one large bass. In about two weeks things should be Just right there. Jim Garson of Tacoma, Com pany 1, has been an ardent sportsman in his day. Jim as a youngster was raised in Min nesota and when he was strong enough to tote a gun his dad got him a shotgun. Jim has told this writer some great stories of hunting In Minnesota and likewise some tall tales of fish ing and hunting around Puget Sound. While here at Camp White Jim Is a member of Camp White's fishing club and in ad dition makes ninny excursions to the river on his own. We hear the bugles of these fine musicians throughout the camp before sunrise. By the time Gene Crowder trumpets his version of Reveille, the larks are in full swing. They help Gene sound mess call and con tinue to sing through the day. But when evening shadows fall and the time comes to sound Retreat, we like to listen to one lone robin. This lad yodles his cheerful evening song, faithful ly each day, from the top of a pipe on the roof of the Special Services building. When Brother Crowder sounds Taps, the finest of all military calls, he has no competition from the birds. But a chorus of frogs supples the harmony at that late hour. The meadowlarks stayed with us and sang throughout the past winter. Who can estimate the lift which these friends give to I the veterans? A musical therapy of high value. In this nesting season, we suggest that the old saying, "busy as a bee," should be changed to "busy as a bird." Af ter mating, what dashing to and fro in the work of seeking home sites and nest-building. The linnets, as before, pick window ledges wherever they can edge past a screen. One Mamma Linnet has an inter ested group of sponsors for her efforts. On a certain window ledge in Company 1, this small lady built her nest and laid one egg per day for four days. Now she sits out her time from 12 to 14 days while her mate hovers nearby and pours forth his song of cheer and comfort. The veterans who act as god fathers await the blessed event with the customary masculine solicitude. The first nominating conven tion at Baltimore in 1832, chose President Andrew Jackson for a second term by acclamation.
