Miss Corliss, a soprano. sang for many events in Mediord before leaving here to attend col' lege. Phyllis Corliss To Be Presented In Song Recital Miss Phyllis Corliss of Med ford and Miss Jean Clawson of Portland will be presented in Joint recital Tuesday evening, April 22, by the voice depart ment of Marylhurst college. The recital will be a public event in St. John's hall, Oregon City. Miss Corliss, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Corliss, 938 South Holly street, makes her home in Oregon City during the college year. Both young artists are sophomores at Marylhurst, Miss Corliss has prepared three groups of songs, and Miss Clawson has two groups. The so pranos will also appear in two duets, singing strophes from Per golesi's "Stabat Mater" as their opening number and closing the program with Saint-Saens' "Bo lero." For her first group Miss Cor liss has chosen "Si tu le veux" by Koechlin, "Ici-bas" by Faure, and "Bonjour Suson" by Delibes. Her second group consists of two folk songs in modern arrange ment by Benjamin Britten, "O Can Ye Sew Cushions?" (Scot tish) and "The Ash Grove" (Welsh). Her finale is from Haydn's "The Creation," when (he rings the recitative, "And God said: "Let the Waters," and the air, "On Mighty Pens." Strings and flute accompany the Haydn numbers. Miss Clawson is to sing three Irish songs in arrangements by Beethoven and compositions by Sarti, Auber, Grieg and Kings ley. Assisting on the program are 1 the Misses Myrtle Stangl and Betty Jean Weber, pianists, and the Marylhurst String Ensem ble. 1 High School Students To Entertain Monday Students from the Senior High school speech classes instructed by DeVere Taylor will speak Monday evening to members of the Olive Rebekah lodge during a regular meeting. Mrs. Bernice Kunzman will present Mr. Tay lor. Ray Lewis, Medford Junior High school music instructor, will present students from his classes. Albert Hunteman, junior high band director, also will pre sent members of the school band. The program will begin at 7:45 p.m. and will take place previous to the business meet ing of the lodge. Mrs. Dana Bowers and her committee will serve refresh ments. Visiting Rebekah mem bers are invited. This will be a business and social evening and officers are requested to wear formal gowns. Nye, a representative of the League of Women Voters, speak at a meeting of the group Mon day evening. Mrs. Nye discussed and an swered questions on the coming election, candidates and issues. To Mark Anniversary Of Odd Fellow Lodge At Gathering Tuesday The birthday of Oddfellow- ship in America will be cele brated at a gathering in Med ford Tuesday, April 22, in IOOF hall. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. It is stated that all IOOF was hostess to the group. Miss Betty Levine led devotions. The business meeting was con ducted by Miss Marjorie Sand fort, president, who was re elected president of the organi zation during the meeting. Mrs. Duane Mitchell is the new vice president; Miss Marjorie Ander son, secretary, and Miss Levine, treasurer. Other officers are Miss Pat Malone, spiritual life secretary; Miss Bette Ridgley, publicity chairman, and Miss Pauline Kruggel, membership chairman. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting. Next meeting of the group will be a picnic at the home of Mrs. Harry Myers, coordinator. Sunday, April 20, 1151 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE SEVEN lodges and (11 branches of the order in the entire southwest section of Oregon have been in vited to participate, and that members may invite friends. A past grand master will speak and entertainment will include a musical program and cards. A committee made up of both Odd Fellows and Rebekahs will make arrangements for the event, and refreshments will be served. The first meeting in this coun try of Odd Fellows took place April 26, 1819 in Baltimore, Md. Now there is rarely a district in the entire United States without IOOF and Rebekah lodges. The 100th anniversary of the lodge in the state of Oregon will be celebrated in Salem during the week of May 18. The grand lodge will convene there at that time and the Salem lodge plans special events for the occasion. The Medford lodge has elected three delegates to attend and there are three alternates. The delegates are Frank Heller, Joe Hauson and Gordon Greenwood Alternates are L. O. Howard, E. D. Perkins and A. J. Hanby.
