SIX MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Tuwday. April 15. 1951 Nutritional Expert Will Give Talk Here Thursday Evening Dr. Royal Lee, president of the Lee Foundation for Nutritional Research, Milwaukee, Wis., will talk on "The Newer Concepts in Nutrition," Thursday, April 17, at 8 p.m. in the YMCA audi torium. His talk will be open to the public with no admission charge. Dr. Lee Is an electrical en gineer, and heads the Lee En gineering company, also of Mil waukee. His interest in nutrition began when his own health broke down rather early in life nd his Investigations and ex periments resulted in the crea tion of the foundation for nutri tional research. Royalties from his inventions paid hii way through Marquette university, where he earned the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. Combines Work At present he combines the professions of engineer, nutri tional authority and vitamin manufacturer. He will fly to Medford from a conference with the Northwest Dental association meeting in Eugene, Oregon. His talk will be on food propa ganda, the relation of soil to nu trition, and the effect of such proposed plans as fluoridation of water. Dr. Lee will come to Medford 1 t the invitation of Edward Dan rich, editor of The Challenge Magazine, and is sponsored Joint ly with the Rogue River chapter of the American Academy of Ap plied Nutrition. Rogue River Rogue River Mrs. Howard Miller will leave Wednesday for Salem where she will attend the Lions Auxiliary state board meeting as delegate from Rogue River chapter. Benny Chamberlin returned from Japan recently and spent a thirty-day leave with his par ent Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Cham berlin. He will now be stationed at San Diego. Mrs. Chamberlin returned here last Tuesday and plans to spend the summer in the family home on Evans creek. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ebcling and children, Margaret, Dave, and Gary of Temple City, Calif., pent a week recently with Mr. Ebeling's parents, the Al Ebel lngs of West Evans road. Miss Zclla Hamer who has been ill with pneumonia the past week is reported improving. Guests at the Presbyterian Manse the past week were the Rev. D. F. Barnett's sisters, Mrs. Maude Coper and Miss Anna Shull and a niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Sanderson of South Gate, Calif. The Volunteer Firemen were called to the Wolf home on the right fork of Foots creek Sunday morning when the flue caught fire. No damage was done to the building, but the firemen were called to stand by as a precau tionary measure. Frances Nixon, a commercial art student at Oregon Technical Institute, Klamath Falls, spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Nixon of West Evans road. Frances re ports she is making good pro gress In her art classes and plans to work in a studio this summer. There will be a card and game party at the Live Oak Grange hall In Rogue River at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 19. It will be a benefit entertainment and pro ceeds are to be used in purchas ing a stage curtain and dinner plates. The public is invited. Prizes will be awarded for the various card games and there will be a smnll admission charge which will include entertain ment and refreshments. All women members are asked to bring pics. Rogue River Civic club held a short business meeting Friday and adjourned early so members might attend the landscaping demonstration at the Smith ranch on East Evans road. A Mother's Day tea was planned for May 9 at 2 p.m. The tea will be preceded by a brief business meeting and members arc asked to come at 1 p.m., In order to complete plans for the senior breakfast. Regular monthly so cial meeting of the club will be held on April 25. Pictures of the two covered bridges on Evans creek, the old Minthorne bridge and the one at Wimer, have been mailed to Reedsport at the request of an artist, who visited here some time ago and saw the pictures displayed in the window of the Hub drugstore. The adult educational class In sketching and oil painting has completed the ten weeks course under instructor Eug.'ne H. Cota. Beginning Friday of thi week .their paintings will be displayed, for a few days, at the Times office on Depot street.
