D. House and family from Bend who are living in the Segessenman house in the Cove. Mrs. House is the sister of Mrs. Al Cooper of Shady Cove and he is the brother of Gene House, also of Shady Cove. Mallory Lane has been graded from Crater Lake highway to the end. This project was done by the property owners with Ben Nork doing the work with his grader. Mr. and Mrs. Fred'Cyphers of Ocean Park, Wash., have been visiting their daughter and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wilson of Trail. Rogue Elk Extension unit held a pie social and square dance the last Saturday in March at Elk Creek social hall. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Jones of Shady Cove have returned home from Seattle where they visited relatives. Bob Holcomb of Shady Cove made a trip to Portland recently to bring back a load of bottles in the semi-trailer for the Or. Pepper Botting company. Dan Krotz, 3rd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Krotz of River road, Shady Cove, has been pro moted to 1st class seaman at the Astoria Naval Base, Tongue Point, where he is stationed. Mrs. Bob Bishop of Shady Cove has just received a Bulova wristwatch for furnishing the winning slogan on the Jimmy Fidler Home Permanent contest. Mr. and Mrs. David Ward and daughter, Claudia of Eugene, have been recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Segessenman of Shady Cove. Mrs. Ward is a niece of Mrs. Segessenman. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Harris of Shady Cove are parents of a boy born March 19 at Sacred Heart hospital in Medford. Mrs. Harris is the former Beth Part ner. The baby who weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces Is the grandson of Mrs. G. G. Hunt of Shady Cove. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Caster and family of Shady Cove have moved back to Phoenix and he is employed by Piggly Wiggly in Medford. He was formerly em ployed by the Shady Cove Mar ket. There will be a public dance Friday evening, April 11, at VFW hall in Shady Cove with Dick Spain and his orchestra playing. Newcomers to Shady Cove from Phoenix are Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Boyle who are living In one of the Segessenman houses in the Cove. Boyle is employed as bookkeeper at the Segessen man Lumber company. They originally came from Colorado. Ernest Hess of Shady . Cove made a trip to Estacada recently to do some work on a new farm he has purchased there. The Hesse's plan to move to Esta cada as soon as the place is ready. Play practice for the annual Shady Cove PTA play is under way with members taking both male and female leads which should provide a lot of laughs and comedy. A date for the play will be announced later. Installation of newly elected officers in VFW Steelhead Post and Ladies Auxiliary will be held April 18 starting at 7:30 p.m., at Camp White. Numbers from Phoe nix high school included physi cal education tumbling dan un der direction of Mrs. Duane Mitchell. Participating were Lil lian Barnes, Janet Andrus. Betty Harris, Ellen Pannell and Dolly Kaggoner. The barbershop quar tette was under direction of Mr. Einarsson. Those singing were Ronald Prosise. Robert Hurd. Gary Keenit and Lowell Shearin. Master Claude Hutton appoint ed on the public relations com mittee Charley Hockersmith. Al Lewis and Ralph Swingle. Mel vin Lattie was elected as alter nate to attend State Grange. Announcements included a square dance April 11, with Minnie Robertson calling; Queen's ball, April 18; an invita tion from Griffin Creek Grange to their Easter program, April 10, and Bellview Grange invited the first and second degree team to confer full initation with tab leau at this meeting on April 15. Practice for the degree team will be held April 14 at 8 p.m. H.E.C. chairman announced next regular Grange serving committee for April 22 will be Mr. and Mrs. Dee Hendrickson. Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Janosky and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Payne. Home Economic club will meet at the home of Mildred Korth, April 18. A covered dish luncheon will be served at 12:30 p.m. Program topic will be "spring fashions,'' by Ethel Hockersmith. Roxy Ana Grange Roxy Ann Grange met April 4 with a good attendance. A movie was shown by Orbin of pictures he had taken himself of his big bear hunt In Alaska. It was very interesting, and was enjoyed by all who saw it Hay was reported selling for $38 a ton. Brother Dora was a visitor from Upper Applegate Grange. Grange members took a silver offering for Bertha Beck, retir ing secretary for State Grange, with 30 years of service to her credit Grange voted to have cards made up to send to delinquent members. Saturday, April 12, is regular Grange party night Refreshments were served by Mr. and Mrs. Al Sims, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Shober and Mae Moore. Next regular meeting will be on Friday, April 18.
