The Rev. C. M. King, first pastor of the church, will participate. Music will include numbers by Elizabeth Wilcox and the church choir and orchestra, directed by John M. Eby with Ethel Horn stad as organist and Ruth Eby as pianist. Dr. Vanderpool will give the anniversary address. The youth groups will meet at 6:30 p.m., and the closing service will be at 7:30 p.m., with Dr. Vanderpool speaking and several musical numbers pre sented. The public is invited to attend these anniversary services. Assessor Appeals For Quick Return Of Tax Information County Assessor C. A. Myers today appealed to merchants of the county to return, as soon as possible, the forms which were mailed them with regard to the current recheck of inventories for personal property taxes. Myers explained that time Is rapidly approaching ' when amended returns will have to be in so that the assessor's staff can process them before the books close finally on May 12. There is a great deal of work to be done on the amended returns be fore that date, he said. In sending out ' amended re turns at the time the inventory recheck was started, Myers re quested that they all be return ed not later than April 1, he said, but a great many are still out standing. Stat Starts Racheck The recheck of the inventor ies was started throughout the state by the State Tax Commis sion recently, when it . became evident that some merchants were not reporting their true in ventories for personal property tax purposes, with the result that those reporting full value were paying more than their share of the tax. The work the assessor's staff will have to complete by mid April includes assembling all the returns, and compiling statistics which will give the assessor the necessary basis to work out an equitable assessed value on the merchandise's true value, as is done in property taxation. Assessor Myers was emphatic in stating that it will be neces sary for the amended returns to be sent in within the shortest possible time before the work, which will benefit most mer chants, can be completed. i DR. Dr. Vanderpool has held stra tegic pastorates in Denver, Colo., Pasadena, Calif., and Walla Walla, Wash., and also served for 11 years as superintendent of the Northwest district, before being elected to the general su perintendency in 1950. He is considered to be one of the outstanding preachers in the denomination, having been espe cially successful in evangelistic work. He will be accompanied by Mrs. Vanderpool, driving from . their home in San Jose, Calif., for this occasion. Starts With Rally . The special day will begin with a Sunday School rally at 8:45 a.m., which is the closing session in the six-weeks "Climb to Easter" emphasis. At 11 a.m. Speaker To Defend King James Bible Clifford A. Turvey, business man and lay preacher, speaking at Valley View Seventh-day Ad ventist church at 11 ajn. on April 5 will bring the works of Greek and Latin scholars to the defense of the "King James" Bible. He will defend that version of the Scriptures against charges such as those of Hartzell Spence, who in a recent issue of a maga zine stated that it is doubtful that David killed Goliath, that Noah had an ark or that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. While critics reportedly claim there are at least 20,000 errors in the New Testament, Turvey maintains that for the scientific minded there is now definite mathematical proof that even the word order of the Bible shows divine inspiration. Tur vey declared the movement to rewrite the scriptures to be a fulfillment of a remarkable Bi ble prophecy. The speaker will quote sev eral authorities.
